Swimming turned tragic in Marignane.
A five-year-old girl died on Tuesday evening after drifting on an inflatable buoy off the beach of Jaï, in the city of Bouches-du-Rhône, according to the maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean cited by BFM Marseille.
A diver from Sdis (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) 13, aboard a Civil Security helicopter, picked up the girl almost a kilometer from the beach, completes La Provence.
The young victim, in cardiorespiratory arrest, was transported by helicopter by the Samu teams.
She did not survive despite rescue attempts to resuscitate her.
Another girl in a state of hypothermia
Another three-year-old girl, also hanging from the buoy, was transported by firefighters.
The victim was brought to shore to receive cardiac massage.
She was conscious but suffered from hypothermia, according to the local channel.
The little girl was also evacuated by a medical rescue and victim assistance vehicle (VSAV) and transported to La Timone hospital in Marseille.
The alert was given in the early evening around 7 p.m., after the disappearance of these two children carried away by the current.
