18 children and young people have to wait another year for their lessons.

Only then will the Steinhöring municipality's increased funding for the municipal music school take effect.

Steinhöring - The municipality is a top location for musical education.

More and more children and young people want to use music education offers in Steinhöring.

Whether early musical education, instrumental lessons individually or in groups, whether brass gangs in school or music band: the offer is extensive and people like to take advantage of it.

In the meantime, even so much so that the music school, as the provider of most offers, has to keep a waiting list.

16 potential music students will not be able to get any lessons in the next school year.

Gustav Berger, administrative manager of the municipal music school in Ebersberg, reported this to the Steinhöringer municipal council.

It was about increasing the “personnel hours cap”.

30 "annual weekly hours" become 38

So far, the Steinhöring community has paid the music school 30 so-called “annual weekly hours”, one of which costs the community a good 1700 euros.

These plus the fees paid by the parents and a little government funding finance the music school education for the Steinhöringer children.

The annual weekly hours depend on the number of students.

In Steinhöring, however, that was capped at just these 30 hours.

So it happens that because of the larger crowd, 16 students now have to be put off.

A total of 81 Steinhöringer music students are currently being taught.

"What is education worth to us?" Mayor Martina Lietsch asked the committee.

All the municipal councils agreed that the municipality's cost sharing should definitely be increased.

This will now happen in two stages, each with four more hours to a total of 38 annual hours per week.

Socially adjusted: Local councils want new fee structure

There was no discussion on this topic, but a few comments with an appeal to the administration manager of the municipal music school: Please introduce a social component in the composition of the contribution - even if it is time-consuming.

CSU municipal councilor Johannes Antoni recalled earlier billing methods: the fees were based on the parents' income.

"After all, we as a community don't have a cornucopia either," he regretted.

His party colleague Wolfgang Hofstetter put it in a nutshell: "It cannot be that the municipalities should always pay for everything."

"A good idea," summed up Gustav Berger.
