Three interchanges and two tunnels:
at the end of the month, road 16 will be inaugurated and provide another central entrance to the capital.
The road will connect the southern neighborhoods in the city to road number 1. It is about 6 km long and will include two tunnels that will pass under the Har Nof and Yafa Nof neighborhoods.
The road will be the new and central entrance to the city, and with a continuous drive of several minutes from the exit interchange, it will be possible to reach all the neighborhoods in the south and west of the city through two underground tunnels.
This is a project of the Jerusalem Municipality, the Ministry of Transportation and the Israel Routes Company, carried out by the "Shapir" company.
The road will mainly serve those coming from the west.
This is a state-of-the-art road with a speed limit of 110 km/h and three interchanges along it: in the Moza area, in Nahal Rabida near Givat Shaul and adjacent to Beit Street. Through it, it will be possible to reach many neighborhoods in a short time, including the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
without traffic jams.
The new road in Jerusalem,
The road is two-lane in each direction, starts at the exit interchange and forks until it connects to Derech Begin.
As mentioned, the road includes two tunnels that will pass under the Har Nof and Yafa Nof neighborhoods and the eastern part of Mount Herzl.
Between the two tunnels the road passes by a bridge over Nahal Ravida, and there a Nahal Ravida interchange was built to connect it with the new road that was paved to Givat Shaul.
As part of the project, a bridge was built over Nahal Sorek at the Moza interchange, which will connect the road to Highway 1 on the existing Moza bridge, which is 372 meters long.
Also, scenic restoration works are being carried out in the Har Nof tunnels for Nahal Ravida.
In the future, those arriving to the city via Route 16 will have the Beit parking lot - the "Hana Vesa" parking lot, which will be located near the route of the green line of the light rail in the Ramat Beit Hakarem neighborhood.
2,275 parking spaces are planned in the parking lot, 30% of which will also include electric charging stations, parking spaces for two-wheeled vehicles and designated parking spaces for the disabled, along with other means of accessibility.
All places in the parking lot will be in a 'park and ride' format, with the aim of encouraging the use of public transportation and means of mass transportation.
The Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon: "As part of the transportation revolution that is taking place in the capital city, a new entrance to the city will soon be opened, which will allow a short trip from the Moza Hesher interchange to the city's neighborhoods. This way, those staying in the city will be able to enter the city quickly and comfortably, and in the future to park at the Hana Vesa Beit parking lot and reach the Hafzam district using the green line of the light rail. Route 16 is just one of dozens of projects that are currently being implemented, the purpose of which is to promote the transportation infrastructure in the city, alongside the establishment of infrastructure for the additional lines of the light rail and mass transit systems. Jerusalem will be the city The first in Israel to get out of the traffic jams."
