Great damage to property: farmers demand tens of thousands of shekels from extreme leftist organizations Israel today

Two ranchers from the Jordan Valley filed a claim for more than NIS 150,000 against three left-wing organizations to the Peace Court in Beit Shan.

Two ranchers living in the Jordan Valley are suing left-wing organizations for more than NIS 150,000, after they allegedly damaged the cattle fence they erected three times, the last of which was about two weeks ago.

In a lawsuit submitted to the Magistrate's Court in Beit Shan against the organization "Looking at the occupation with our eyes", "Fighters for Peace" and "Mothers Against Violence", they demand civil compensation for the damage caused to them.

About two weeks ago, activists of the extreme left organization "Looking at the occupation with our eyes" published that they destroyed a cattle fence that was built near the settlement of Hamada in the Jordan Valley, in protest of its construction on the grounds that it prevents shepherds from passing through.

In a post they put up on their Facebook account, they wrote that "Operation Shalom Geder, somewhere in the Bekaa, has ended successfully. A pirate fence, a fence that denied access to water/pasture to anyone who is not Jewish. There was a fence?! Early in the morning on Shabbat, nature went free!".

This is the third time that left-wing activists allegedly destroyed the fence in a year and a half.

Uri Cohen and Eshal Kornitz, two farmers who they say were harmed as a result of the destruction of the fence, are now suing the three left-wing organizations through lawyer Michael Litvak, in the amount of NIS 157,000.

"The defendants cut and damaged the cattle fence of the plaintiffs on 3 different occasions," reads the lawsuit submitted to the Beit Shean Magistrate's Court. The first time in February 2021, the second time in April 2022 and the third time at the end of July 2022. While the first time the damage to the fence was close to -9,000 shekels, the second and third time the damage increased to about 44.5 thousand shekels.

For the first time, they note "the defendant was not content with harming the plaintiffs, and also bragged and published her actions on her Facebook page in Hebrew, as well as on the Facebook page in English."

In another case, one of the "Fighters for Peace" representatives stated in a hearing in the Foreign and Security Committee of the Knesset that he intends to continue removing fences placed by the settlers.

"Removing a fence that was erected illegally and that has a demolition order is not violence. I am announcing here that we will remove the illegal fences that the settlers are putting up," the minutes of the hearing stated.

"Infringe the freedom of occupation"

In April 2022, when the leftists came to cut the fence, the plaintiffs, people who observe Shabbat, received a call from their Arab neighbor who alerted them to the cutting of the fence "which he himself is using to demarcate the cattle area he raises. It is evident that the Arab cattle breeder was also harmed by the provocations of the defendants."

The farmers, the lawsuit states, were forced to leave in the middle of the Sabbath to protect their property.

"The defendants violated the plaintiffs' property rights, violated their freedom of occupation, and caused damage by cutting the fence and harming the plaintiffs' ability to make a living from their craft - cattle breeding," the plaintiffs wrote.

In total, the plaintiffs are demanding approximately NIS 97,000 for the damage, and an additional NIS 60,000 for the mental anguish caused to them.

Attorney Michael Litvak, the legal advisor of the "Bezelmo" organization, which represents the plaintiffs, said: "Yes to freedom of expression and protest, no to vandalism and damage to other people's property.

Unfortunately, instead of extreme leftist organizations remembering that they live in a democratic country that allows for legitimate protest according to the rules of the law, they chose to harm, break and destroy and furthermore to be proud of it in public.

Now they will have to pay the price.

My client suffered heavy damage and I am sure that the court will award the full amount of compensation that we have claimed.

I hope that this will stop the illegal violence against my clients."

The organization "Looking at occupation with our eyes" and "Fighters for Peace" did not respond to the news until it was published.

The "Mothers Against Violence" organization referred "Israel Hayom" to their lawyer and said that they are looking into the claim.
