The new green corridor in the district of Augustenfeld has been completed and has now been officially opened.

Dachau –

On the approximately 1.4 hectare area, which stretches from Theodor-Heuss-Straße in the east to the height of the Awo-Kinderhaus Augustenfeld in the west, there are, among other things, a blooming meadow, a new playground, a calisthenics facility, a football field and a boule alley were created.

The new green corridor is two football pitches in size

In addition to the facilities mentioned, there are plenty of places to sit and relax in the area, which is about two football pitches large, including a small theatron made of natural stone blocks, which the neighboring secondary school can also use as a green classroom.

The four meter wide, asphalted and illuminated main path opens up the important connections with the new development area and the schools for pedestrians and cyclists.

The children's playground has a colorful potpourri of children's amusement equipment: a slide tower, a climbing landscape, a rope swing, of course a sand play area and even a watercourse with two pumps.

A central, continuous flower meadow with flowers typical of the region was also sown in the green corridor, which provides food for many insects.

In the meadow there are some seepage troughs that hold rainwater longer and should serve as a habitat for amphibians.

Planted many different types of trees

White willows, oaks and pines were planted as the main tree species – in the style of the Dachau moss trees typical of the region.

Other interspersed tree species are trembling poplar, silver linden, birch, hornbeam and Japanese pagoda.

There are also some fruit trees such as apple, plum and walnut trees.

As big as two soccer fields: the new green area with trees, a playground, a calisthenics facility and more.

The actual construction period for the green corridor should last from May to December 2021.

But unfortunately it still required a few months of completion care, so that the green areas had to remain closed.

Unfortunately, the dry winter did not allow the seeds to thrive as desired.

In some areas the seed simply died and the large meadow areas in the area of Theodor-Heuss-Straße had to be sown again.

The football field remains closed until the lawn is sufficiently resilient.

The production costs for the green corridor amount to around 980,000 euros.

They were taken over as part of an urban development contract by the developer who is building residential buildings in the area.

At the opening, Mayor Florian Hartmann thanked everyone involved in the project for their excellent work.

The planners from Luska Freiraum Dachau, the Hallertauer Landschaft contractors from Mainburg and the leading municipal department for urban green spaces and the environment, above all Irmgard Metzner and department head Stefan Tischer, were involved.

"I keep finding, and it can be seen in many places in our city, that what our subject area of urban greenery and the environment tackles is impressive and is a benefit for the citizens as well as for nature," said a delighted Mayor Hartmann at the opening of the green corridor.
