In some federal states, Hartz IV recipients have to pay the job centers back because of the nine-euro ticket, in others not.

A new directive from the Federal Employment Agency now creates clarity.

Berlin – In view of skyrocketing energy prices, the nine-euro ticket is intended to give Germans the opportunity to go easy on their wallets and still remain mobile.

So far, Hartz IV recipients have had to tremble: does the popular savings ticket represent “unjustified enrichment” for them?

Nine-euro ticket: Students in Hartz IV families are particularly affected

Especially students in Hartz IV families are affected: The nine-euro ticket is cheaper than most student tickets, which are usually paid for by the job center.

The affected Hartz IV families should therefore pay back the difference – at least some federal states, such as Baden-Württemberg, require this.

Other states such as Lower Saxony, on the other hand, want to forego the reimbursement of the difference between the regular ticket and the nine-euro ticket for Hartz IV recipients.

Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) spoke out in June in favor of the states refraining from any repayments to Hartz IV recipients.

His spokesman stressed that his ministry regretted the claims made by some countries.

It has a different legal opinion, but the responsibility lies with the federal states and the municipalities.

Nine-euro ticket: New directive from the Federal Employment Agency

An instruction from the Federal Employment Agency to the job center now, in August, finally provides clarity.

Hartziv.org

quotes from the letter: “In connection with the 9-euro ticket, there should generally be no refunds.

Grants that have already been approved do not need to be adjusted.

Passive benefits that have already been approved under SGB II are not to be revoked either for the past or for the future at the expense of the beneficiary if the change in circumstances is based solely on the reduction in travel costs through the 9-euro ticket.

The Federal Employment Agency would like a "uniform, resource-saving approach".

Hartz IV recipients can breathe easy.

Anyone who has already had to reimburse a difference in the price of a ticket for a nine-euro ticket or who has had a corresponding amount deducted can now even claim it back from the job centers.
