The music school Gauting-Stockdorf is about to change management.

Christian Hiesel-Schill is retiring after 19 years and the successor has already been decided.

The reason for the change is apparently different opinions about music school work.

Gauting

– The surprise was hidden in an e-mail: Christian Hiesel-Schill, head of the Gauting-Stockdorf music school, says goodbye to Gauting after 19 years.

The successor has already been selected by a committee: Violin teacher Denise Kirschke will be in charge of the music school on September 1st, said the chair of the board of trustees, Jasmin Klingan, on request.

Christian Hiesel-Schill wrote in his farewell e-mail that “together with my colleagues, the board of directors and the association, we managed to triple the number of students”, but: “My time at the Gauting-Stockdorf music school ends on August 31. During his 19 years as headmaster, he followed the idea of gradually developing "a professional and excellent and at the same time humane music school," explained the professional musician and trumpeter.

Especially with a view to the financial and spatial conditions "this was not an easy undertaking".

The Gauting-Stockdorf music school has only had its own rooms in the elementary school next to the town hall since September 2017.

With “my board of directors, support association and countless cooperation partners” it was possible to anchor the music school in community life.

With around 700 students at the moment, their number has "almost tripled, and the municipal grants have more than doubled," according to Hiesel-Schill.

The number of students has tripled

He considers the fact that "the music school has been filled with life" to be the greatest success, because: "I was part of a productive cooperation between teachers, parents and students, which spread joy and created identity." Proud parents and grandparents and bright children's eyes during the final applause of a musical, for example, or the soulful minutes at the end of A Midsummer Night's Dream "will remain in my heart," says the outgoing music school director.

Cooperation with the Paul Hey Middle School on the "Rock and Dance" project, with the Otto von Taube High School on music camps, workshops for chamber music and in rock bands, but also the International Guitar Competition with a concert in the Bosco had shown that Promotion of excellence and low-threshold offers for broad sections of society would go well together.

However, there is another side: Since the change in the board of trustees four years ago, "the ideas of the music school have diverged," the previous director notes.

That's why he decided to "devote myself to a new task, which I'm really looking forward to".

It is "not unusual" for a music school director to change after such a long time, said the chair of the board of trustees and soprano Jasmin Klingan to Starnberger Merkur.

But Hiesel-Schill's dismissal, who had to travel daily from near Miesbach, came suddenly, she admits.

Basically, the music school is there for the musical education of local children and young people, but not for concerts with foreigners, Klingan clarified.

Despite the Corona lockdown with online lessons, no choir singing and no concert performances, the music school has more than 700 students who are taught by 36 teachers: "We are in a great position." Petra Piele, who has been "wupping" the secretariat for decades, ensure continuity.

The position was immediately advertised

After Hiesel-Schill was dismissed, she immediately advertised the position, the chair of the board of trustees continued.

Out of twelve applicants, the committee, which consisted of three teachers and three members of the board of trustees, chose Denise Kirschke.

The violinist already teaches at the music school and leads the small string orchestra: "She's a great teacher with a great CV." The vote was therefore unanimous for Denise Kirschke.

"It starts on September 1st," explained Jasmin Klingan.
