With a tax cut, Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wants to reduce the financial burden on Germans in times of high prices.
An overview.
Berlin – Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wants to relieve citizens of the high inflation with a tax cut of more than ten billion euros.
"Employees and low earners, pensioners and the self-employed, students with taxable part-time jobs and above all families will benefit," wrote the FDP politician in a guest article for the
FAZ.
Lindner's tax relief: 48 million people should benefit
In his press statement on inflation compensation, Lindner explains at the beginning that 48 million Germans are threatened with a "massive tax increase" on January 1st.
But the minister wants to avoid that with his tax plans.
Above all, the finance minister wants to compensate for the cold progression.
This is a type of creeping tax increase, when salary increases are eaten up by inflation but still result in higher taxation.
Higher taxes then apply, although purchasing power does not increase in real terms.
Lindner spoke of a "tax increase through omission", which he wanted to avert.
"It's not about relieving the burden, it's about dispensing with the burden," he makes clear.
Lindner: Rich tax will not be adjusted
Lindner cites a higher tax base allowance, a higher child benefit and thus a higher child allowance as key points.
Around 48 million people “in the broad middle of society” would benefit from this.
On average, the relief is around 192 euros, he explains.
He makes it clear that he doesn't want to screw up the tax on the wealthy.
The cap of the relief package is an income of 62,000 euros.
Anyone who earns more does not benefit.
It would have been a conscious decision, since the relief package should help the middle of society in particular, he emphasized again.
He was also in favor of the fact that “strong shoulders should carry more than narrow shoulders”.
However, the cold progression would also “burden people whose shoulders have not become broader at all”.
