The planned northern access route to the Brenner Pass split the population in Aßling.

Affected farmers protested before the municipal council meeting.

Aßling

– The decision is clear: the municipality of Aßling wants further tests on the future Brenner north access railway line.

At the same time, the municipal council also appealed from several sides not to split the town.

Because depending on the route, there will be different levels of concern in the community and in the surrounding area.

Tractors with yellow crosses as a sign of resistance

Outside, in the surrounding streets, were the farmers' tractors with yellow crosses attached, inside the Aßlingen community hall at the meeting on Tuesday, August 9, the visitor seats were very well filled.

The new line continues to heat up tempers in Aßling.

Many visitors came to the meeting of the municipal council.

Basically, there are currently two variants, one based on the existing route, called "Bürgertrasse", i.e. through the town, the other on a completely new route, whereby agricultural land would be affected in particular.

This route, called "Limone", is favored by the railways after a selection process.

Municipal council decides: Bahn should re-evaluate the route

There is a lot of resistance to this, including in the municipal council.

There was a motion from 13 of the 16 municipal councils.

The result would possibly be a local route, which, according to critics, could also lead through the Atteltal.

Shortly before the meeting, the initiative "Protect Aßling and the Atteltal" had spoken, which referred to the landscape protection area and the Attelleiten FFH area.

The unanimous decision in the municipal council: the railways are asked to re-evaluate the routes and at the same time include the inclusion of an "optimized, existing extension route" in the spatial planning process.

Vice Mayor: Limone creates additional victims

Deputy Mayor Ernst Sporer-Fischbacher (UNL), who chaired the meeting in the absence of Mayor Hans Fent (independent), had previously stated that all sides had to be heard.

But on the existing line, people grew up with the railway line.

There will be additional noise protection.

He also explained that the Limone route would create additional victims.

The appeal in the committee also: You shouldn't personally get into each other's hair or point fingers at each other.

It became clear that Aßling was just a "little cog" in the big process.

"We need political support," said Sporer-Fischbacher.

The decision should go to elected representatives as well as to the district office and ministries.

A new "Bürgerinitiative Brenner Nordzulauf district of Ebersberg" was founded at short notice.

As a sign, she chose a yellow cross, which was also visible before the municipal council meeting.

The symbol is based on the green cross used since 2019 as a warning sign for agriculture.

Central points of the new initiative are the surface consumption, the destruction of local recreation areas, the islanding of individual towns through the Limone route, the destruction of farms, the destruction of local and road connections in the municipal area and the "division of society".
