Spider-Man Remastered (Playstation)

5 years ago Insomniac Games took one of the most beloved superheroes of all time and gave him the treatment that Rocksteady gave to Batman with the Arkham series.

I mean she made a good superhero game starring Spider-Man, one that captures the essence of the character, and puts players into this fantasy that makes them feel like they're playing the superhero all the way.

with all the shabang.

Spider-Man was exclusive to the PlayStation console, but as you understood, since then Sony has started releasing versions of its biggest hits for the PC as well.

I played the game for the first time back in 2018, when even then I received the review code from Yishfar for another website where I wrote about gaming, and in that review I praised the game as well.

I was very pleased.

And Miles Morales after him, also on the same site.

I think this is one of the games that justified the purchase of the console, and Insomniac succeeded in surpassing the formula.

Since then I finished the game a few more times, so as you can see, I really liked the game.

So why not check it out for the fifth (or sixth, who's counting?) time on my favorite platform?

Let's dive in.

Plot: The Perfect Spider-Man Story

The game begins when Spider-Man, who has been wearing the mask for eight years, brings about the arrest of the Kingpin, the supreme ruler of the world of organized crime in New York.

This arrest creates a vacuum in the underworld and struggles begin between different parties trying to take control of the city, including the rise of the villains who increase their presence and organize among themselves.

Even if the story is sometimes predictable, it's executed in a great way that establishes this Spider-Man universe as one that stands on its own.

I will try to avoid further details and spoilers, and I will recommend that you simply experience the experience yourself.

This is the Remastered version released for PlayStation 5, and it comes together with the three expansion packs that make up their own story and continue to expand the world that Insomniac has built, and close ends of the main plot.

Unfortunately the Remastered version also comes with the model version of Peter Parker that was changed from the original, and now looks like Tom Holland.

As someone who avoided and played until now the original version - wow.

There is nothing to compare.

It just doesn't work.

The original model was much better.

Hope modders find a way to restore Peter's old face soon.

So, I will emphasize: if you are PC gamers who love Spider-Man, and the excuse for why you missed the game is "until today it was not available" - you must play it.

b

special

if you like the character.

In my opinion, this is one of the successful Spider-Man stories that manage to amazingly capture the essence and weight of her responsibility perfectly.

Pierre?

I was also excited for the fifth time (or sixth, we already said I'm not counting).

Addictive gameplay loop

In this respect, Spider-Man draws quite a bit of inspiration from Batman's Arkham games, and Spider-Man also has a fluid combat system and stealth moments with the use of gadgets.

But unlike a bat that goes full force into its enemies, the spider's combat system is characterized by acrobatic strikes in the air, use of webs, impressive maneuvers or jumping and leaping from target to target.

Befitting the character.

The stealth system, on the other hand, is much simpler and does not necessarily provide the goods, but the cases in which the players are obliged to maintain anonymity are few, and hardly noticeable.

And that's fine, it shouldn't be the main mechanic I use.

After all we are playing a spider, not a bat that roosts in the shadows.

A particularly prominent game mechanic is of course the "spinning the webs" with which we will navigate around the map, and in my opinion Insomniac succeeded hugely.

The whole business is expressed in beautiful animations and momentum with so much style and iconic poses that look like they are taken straight from the comics.

It's such a fun and refreshing way to move around the map, it makes me forget that I'm actually playing another open-world-game-full-of-side-quests-and-things-to-clean-on-the-map.

Which in practice, is no different from Ubisoft games which I don't really like.

But Spider-Man manages to create a great fluidity between the battles and the plot twists, that you really... forgive me, yes it's an oppressive and tiring sentence, but "you really feel like Spider-Man".

Second, I went to throw up on the side.

Like any action role-playing game, Spider-Man gains an ability scale that can improve his, well, abilities, and players will feel significant differences as they progress through the game.

You'll also be able to unlock new suits that grant special abilities as you progress, along with a variety of gadgets and Perks to help you find your preferred play style.

It's not some revolutionary gameplay and Insomniac didn't reinvent the wheel, but it's an addictive Gameplay-Loop, especially if you're a fan of the genre.

How does the business run on the computer?

Nixxes, the company that made the PC port did a great job.

Although my baby is not considered the strongest monster on the market.

It is already seven years old (which will make a difference to a long life, amen. Love you) and contains an i7 processor, a GA-Z97-HD3 motherboard and a Radeon RX 5700 XT card.

With this hardware I played on settings ranging from Medium to High, and according to my card's launcher I ran the game at an average of 150 frames at 1080p.

The wonders of the Master Race.

The game did crash for me on the first run and worked after that, and again a few days later, but that was fixed with game and driver updates.

I can remember at least three instances where I ran into visual bugs that made the cars in the open world go crazy.

But it's a bug I remember from the PlayStation 4 pre-launch I reviewed the game in 2018, and it's been fixed in updates since then.

I have no doubt that it will be fixed very quickly even now.

I have no complaints and Sony really manages to impress me with its ports.

They come with all the support and settings that PC gamers would expect, and control with a mouse and keyboard feels natural too.

Certainly compared to third-party developer games, whose PC versions are less satisfying.

The game's system requirements (photo: official website, Playstation)

The PC players also get a deeper and more impressive shadow display, Ultrawide Display support, and more reliable reflections.

And if you're one of those lucky players who managed to get a NVIDIA 3000 series graphics card, you'll also get DLSS and DLAA support.

Unfortunately, I have an AMD card, so maybe in the future, when the prices have dropped in Israel.

And when there is stock.

Spider-Man for PC also provides full support for the DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5, including all its capabilities.

I spent most of the experience with a mouse and keyboard, but if you really feel like the "Lord of Chaos" then you can also connect Xbox or Nintendo Switch remotes.

for fun.

Think about it for a moment: a Sony game on the computer with an Xbox remote.

What a time to be alive.

In the bottom line

There is something very surreal about playing exclusive Sony games on the PC, which release stable versions that benefit from all the advanced capabilities and hardware of the PC, and along the way also proves how limited the consoles are compared to them.

If you are a fan of the action-role-open-world-tree-abilities-and-side-quests genre, then Insomniac has managed to create an addictive and enjoyable gameplay loop in levels.

He doesn't renew or reinvent the formula, but what he does, he does well, and you can see that the developers love the character and the world they built.

If you are Spiderman fans, then the game is a must for you.

This is a great adaptation of the character, and I wish Sony could do the same with their movies, and Tom Holland will forgive me.

Come on, Sony, give me more details about Spider-Man 2!
