Stadtwerke Unterschleißheim are planning a large solar park on Unterschleißheimer See, to the east of the A92 motorway.
The meadow under the modules should serve as pasture.

– The public utility company wants to set up a 200 meter long strip with PV modules on a property owned by the city on the A92.
The system should be eligible for federal funding under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
The power is expected to be 2100 kilowatts peak.
The blue PV modules will produce around 2,268,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
According to the municipal utility, this corresponds to the consumption of 560 four-person households.
The plant will avoid around 1360 tons of CO2 emissions.
Construction process in progress
The city is now paving the way for the solar park.
The construction process has been initiated.
The previous rough plan envisages an area of two hectares for the solar park.
Next up are the natural history studies: fauna and flora are observed on and around the field.
The municipal utility then clarifies whether compensation areas are required and whether the solar park should be greened with a hedge.
Public participation is the wish of the Unterschleißheim city council, and the municipal utilities also want to implement it.
"Which business model is ultimately chosen depends on the regulations in force at the time of commissioning," says plant manager Reinhard Reiter.
He currently assumes that the photovoltaic ground-mounted system can be realized in 2024.
Sheep graze under the modules
However, the A92 is to be widened from four to six lanes in the coming years.
Will the city's property then be needed for the construction site facilities?
That still needs to be agreed with Autobahn GmbH, says Reiter.
It should also be possible for sheep to graze under the new modules, similar to Riedmoos, where the public utility company built a smaller open-air PV system on its own property between the sports park and the A92 in 2018.
The municipal utilities produce 550,000 kilowatt hours of solar power there every year.
The system thus completely covers the needs of 150 single-family households with renewable energy.
This is where the substation comes in
The Bayernwerke substation is to be rebuilt on the same plot of land on which the solar park is being built. It is currently on the corner of Andreas-Danzer-Weg and Furtweg.
This plot of land is to become available for residential construction after the substation has been relocated.
An investor has already purchased between two hectares of arable land next to the substation.
He is planning a residential area with up to 13 rental units and around 120 apartments.
Thanks to the Sobon scheme, the city also benefits and receives living space that it can rent to citizens on favorable terms.
If the substation is relocated, another building plot could be designated.
With the relocation of the substation to the other side of the motorway, the Unterschleißheimer See and the sunbathing areas would also be free of power lines.
