Today, the dialogue sessions held by the National Union of Syrian Students in partnership with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment continued within the framework of the second phase of the youth initiative “First Neighbor” with the aim of raising the level of popular awareness in local administration elections and involving young people in them and in local councils through candidacy and giving them an active role in society As they constitute a primary objective in the political and service aspect.

The second phase of the initiative includes conducting dialogue sessions at the level of neighborhoods and municipalities adjacent to universities and institutes in various governorates, through which the Union’s volunteers work to educate the residents and students of these neighborhoods about the structure and organization of the local administration in Syria, empowering youth candidates for municipal elections from the residents of these areas, and encouraging the people To participate in the elections and carry out some useful post-election activities.

During the dialogue session that was held in the town of Deir Ali in the countryside of Damascus, Waseem Gharzeddin, head of the Student Union branch at the Syrian Private University, stressed the importance of this dialogue meeting because of the wide participation of parents and young groups, considering that this meeting is an opportunity for constructive discussion and informing the groups of society on the items

Local Administration Law No. 107 of 2011 and the tasks and powers of the local administration as the first administrative unit that is in contact with the living and service reality of the citizen and bears the responsibility to improve and support it.

Among the attendees, Dr. Hamza Shaheen confirmed that the workshop created a social atmosphere among the various members of society, the elderly and the youth, rich in constructive dialogues that will feed into the electoral process expected next month, pointing out that trying to represent the people is a national duty and the sessions and attention being held today for the participation of various segments of society It indicates the power of the state in representing and implementing the constitution in terms of timely elections, electoral practice, and giving citizens the right to express their opinion and choose who represents them.

In Tartous, dialogue sessions were held today in the cities of Baniyas and Safita, where engineer Rana Suleiman, a member of the national team facilitating the dialogue sessions, explained that the session included an explanation about the mechanism of the electoral process for the candidate, the goals he seeks to achieve, and what are the obstacles to people not participating in the elections.

Session participants May Moawad, Hanan Ismail and Gina Tarifi stressed the importance of youth participation in the elections, as they are active members of society and have the ability to keep pace with modernity and exploit opportunities.

For his part, Vice President of the Student Union at Al-Wadi International Private University, student Muhammad Tarraf, indicated that the session held in the municipality of Safita included, for the second day, an explanation of the General Elections Law, the Local Administration Law, and the conditions for candidacy and election.

The facilitator of the dialogue session, Engineer Rania Suleiman, explained that she focused on the topic of initiatives that can be taken after the election period and its contribution to the success of the tasks of local councils.

Student Ibrahim Salim and student Abeer Jerry pointed out the importance of the sessions as they are participatory and activate the role of youth in society and encourage them to run for elections.

In Lattakia Governorate, the dialogue sessions continued for the second day in a row, where the participants in the session held in Al-Hanadi Village Charity stressed the constructive role of these events in terms of shedding light on the local administration law and the tasks of local councils. Ali Al-Juhani, Alaa Al-Boudi and Salam Nashar from the villagers expressed their hope that The new candidates are responsible, as they are the link between citizens and higher authorities, and they must be honest, noting the importance of the dialogue session and the information it contained about the local administration.

At the Arab Cultural Center in the town of Kalamakho, which is affiliated with the city of Qardaha in Latakia, the participants in the dialogue session stressed its importance in terms of educating the people and youth in the countryside of the governorate.

From the audience, teacher Kawthar Salman pointed out the necessity of informing the new generation of the service laws and regulations of local administration councils and educating them about the importance of exercising their right to vote in the upcoming elections.

In Aleppo, dialogue sessions continued today to introduce the law and the local administration elections. Dialogue meetings were organized in the councils of the cities and towns of Maskanah, Al-Babri, Al-Jabbul, Haritan and Urm Al-Kubra, during which the provincial council members and specialists gave a brief explanation of the local administration law, the mechanism of candidacy and elections, and the role of local councils in achieving the development of rural communities through Ensure the implementation of service projects that advance their reality in various fields.

The sessions’ coordinators from members of the National Union of Syrian Students from public and private universities and institutes indicated the importance of the role of youth in active participation in the elections and their keenness to run for elections in order to promote the principle of democracy and to participate in developing the work of administrative units and implementing projects that benefit society.

The people's interventions focused on the role entrusted to the upcoming local councils in improving the service reality in various fields.

In Al-Hasakah Governorate, the branch of the National Union of Syrian Students concluded the dialogue sessions that it implements within the framework of the “First Neighbor” initiative. The head of the union branch, Alaa Al-Talaa, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the sessions aim to encourage citizens to participate broadly in the local council elections and to involve young people in the awareness-raising situation regarding them and to practice their active role in society.

On the second of August, the National Union of Syrian Students, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, launched the “First Neighbor” initiative at the level of public and private universities as a first stage, followed by subsequent stages to spread awareness regarding local council elections.
