Among them, a man who was a ground handler earlier pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage and was sentenced in the Eastern District Court today (10th).

Magistrate Wang Zhengyu pointed out that the nature of the case was serious enough to be sentenced to prison. In order to reflect the seriousness of the case, he was sentenced to an 80-hour social service order.


Defendant pleads guilty to criminal damage

The defendant, Lai Siu-hong (24 years old, part-time employee of a convenience store), pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage, alleging that he destroyed or damaged a computer belonging to Hong Kong Express Airlines without legal excuse in Hong Kong on about December 24, 2019.

The defense pleaded that the defendant had committed the crime for what he thought was a hilarious prank, and he now regrets it.

In addition, his mother who suffers from breast cancer described the defendant as a straightforward and innocent child. The defense hopes that the court will take into account that the mother needs the defendant's care and can issue a probation order.

The defendant, Li Shaohong, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and was sentenced to 80 hours of social service.

Liang Chuanxin and his family go to Japan

The facts of the case allege that Liang Chuanxin booked a round-trip air ticket for him and his family to Japan in December 2019.

However, a few days after Liang arrived in Japan, HKExpress staff discovered that Liang's return order had some unusual and unpaid booking requirements, such as 24 meals, 5 luggage allowances, and other unusual operations included choosing a preferred seat5. 5 times, photocopied the itinerary information 5 times, changed the name of Liang Zai's passenger information to Leung Shit, and another record shows that someone tried to pay the above fee with wrong credit card information 5 times.

HkExpress subsequently conducted an internal investigation and found that the operation involved was sent through the Internet service at the defendant's residence by tracing the IP address.

The accused was a local staff member at the airport

Both the defendant and the man B had worked at the airport, and the defendant had already left at the time of the incident.

B, who was still a ground handler, learned of Liang's arrangement to go to Japan on December 23. After dishonestly obtaining relevant flight information, B shared the information with the defendant and others through a WhatsApp group.

The defendant then logged into Leung's booking account using a mobile app the next day and made the above changes without Leung's permission.

After being arrested, he said he just wanted to play a prank

The defendant was arrested on January 24, 2020. Under the warning, he said: "I am always a fun-loving person for a while. First, I used a Reference to log in to the HKExpress app, and then changed my menu to trick them." Zhong said he just wanted to play a prank on Leung's father (Leung Chun-ying) in order to cause him to bear the extra cost.

The case of another defendant, Guo Shangwen, was adjourned to August 24 for defense.

Another defendant in the same case, Guo Shangwen (22 years old, ground staff), faced two counts of taking a computer for dishonest gain and committing an act with intent to obstruct justice. His case was adjourned to August 24 for defense.
