During its meeting today at the Ministry of Education, the National Committee for Education, Science and Culture of UNESCO discussed a Syrian working paper entitled “Developing Transformative Education in the Light of Wars and Disasters” “Education in the Syrian Arab Republic,” which will be presented to the Education Transformation Summit to be held in New York next September on the sidelines of the 77th session to the United Nations General Assembly.

The committee, which includes representatives from relevant ministries, national bodies and local community organizations, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with UNESCO in the areas of competence, activating electronic correspondence to facilitate the work mechanism and supporting Syrian participation in international conferences, providing the National Committee with reports on the participation periodically, nominating various specialized competencies and adopting proposals that would Work development and improvement.

The Minister of Education and Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, stressed during his virtual participation the need to submit observations and suggestions about the working paper that will be submitted to the Education Transformation Summit, indicating that it will be comprehensive for national programs and strategies related to education in Syria, which will have a clear impact on its development.

Minister Tabbaa pointed to the importance of the committee's work and its cooperation with the relevant ministries, which provided positive results for the development of education, pointing to the ministry's plan to develop skills among students and achieve sustainable development goals, especially the fourth goal to reach the quality of education.

The Assistant Minister of Education, Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Hammad, drew attention to the importance of education for human building, indicating the ministry’s keenness to prepare to participate in the Education Summit next September, as intensive work was done with several sub-committees emanating from it to prepare this paper by inviting youth and national and local youth organizations to share their views on The process of transformation in education.

On the ministry's cooperation with UNESCO, Al-Hammad referred to the two alternative education projects and the courses of the educational loss compensation program for students of basic and secondary education certificates.

For his part, the Secretary of the National Committee for UNESCO, Dr. Nidal Hassan, indicated that the committee participated in a number of activities, such as preparing to participate in the work of the Second World Conference on Early Childhood, the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, and international conferences such as the World Conference on Higher Education, revealing that work is underway to complete a publication for the National Committee.
