Tying herb bushes, celebrating May devotions, making things for bazaars and carrying women in Advent: all of this is part of the tasks of the Schöngeisinger Marien-Verein.

With his activities, he not only enriches village life, but also collects lots of donations for charitable purposes.

Schöngeising

– In a few days, Irmgard Hefter's garden will be transformed into a sea of flowers and herbs again.

This happens every year on August 14th, when members of the Marien-Verein Schöngeising meet at the chairperson's to tie herb bushes.

FFB newsletter.)

The colorful bouquets of a mullein, a rose, ears of corn, wild flowers and garden flowers will be consecrated the next day - the Assumption Day - in the church in neighboring Holzhausen and handed over for a donation.

Hung upside down, they last all year round and are supposed to protect their new owners, including their house and yard, from harm.

Irmgard Hefter has been opening her garden for the preparations since 2011.

She added up that since then more than 750 herb bushes have been tied.

The donations benefit charities.

The campaign combines the most important association purposes - passing on the faith, cultivating Marian traditions and doing good.

The association is active all year round, but the month of Mary, May, has a special meaning.

Open-air prayers are then celebrated every year.

The chapel in the Rothschwaig, the Zellhof, the Lourdes grotto on the Senserweg or crosses in public spaces are popular destinations.

"When the weather was very bad, we have also celebrated prayers in decorated carports or garages," says the chairwoman.

That too could have its appeal.

"But the most beautiful thing is the atmosphere in nature."

For its 90th birthday, the association received a candle from the municipality of Schöngeising.

During Advent, the Marien-Verein maintains the old custom of carrying women.

Based on Maria and Joseph's search for a place to stay, a statue of Mary is carried from house to house and - in connection with a devotion - finds accommodation for a short time with new families.

Interested parties must register in advance.

Sometimes there are more days than there are days in Advent.

The Marien-Verein collects donations throughout the year.

Since 1990 he has supported aid projects for children, young people and the homeless, the women's shelter in Fürstenfeldbruck, the Brucker Tafel and many other social causes at home and abroad with almost 50,000 euros.

On the Assumption Day, the colorful bouquets are consecrated in the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Holzhausen.

You can then purchase them for a donation.

Founded in February 1932, the Marien-Verein celebrated its 90th anniversary this year.

From the beginning it was about helping people, because times were bad.

The Schöngeisingerinnen - the association is reserved for Catholic women - was about cohesion.

Consistent records from the first 50 years have not survived.

However, we know from oral accounts that there were prayer hours, rosary and May devotions, excursions, film screenings and a sewing course.

When Gerda Osetzky took over the helm in 1983, the club just languished.

Together with the then pastor Johann Feigl, today's honorary chairman succeeded in reviving it.

The statutes were revised, there were more activities again.

“Our beautiful Marienbanner was purchased in 1988,” says Irmgard Hefter.

For the 65th anniversary of the founding in 1997, a lighter flag was added - and a beautiful hand-carved Madonna, a gift from the other local associations.

This Madonna wanders from house to house carrying women.

Today the Marien-Verein has 110 members between the ages of 34 and 100.

Some joined from an old family tradition, others came because prayer to the Mother of God helped them in difficult situations.

Nobody asks for the exact reason - Irmgard Helfer also keeps hers to herself.

Just this much: In 2005, as a thank you to Maria, she decided to join.

Coincidentally, the 66-year-old ended up at the annual general meeting on her first visit to a club event.

By the end of the evening she had been elected assessor.

In 2008 she took over the chair - "and I do it very, very much."

For the former judicial officer, Maria is not so much the distant saint, but a woman from the people who was a companion, wife, mother, friend and went through difficult times.

"It would also fit into our present time."

The series: In the new series "The special club" clubs (also organizations and loose groups) are presented that have a unique selling point in their place or in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck.
