Training workshops for children about shadow theater in Tartous culture

The activities of the training workshop, which was held today by Nagham and Qalam Center in cooperation with the Arab Cultural Center in Tartous, in the center’s training hall, included an introductory explanation about the Shadow Shadow Theatre, in which 35 children and adolescents participated, with the aim of training them on how to prepare a special theatrical work that matches the art of shadow fiction.

Head of the Arab Cultural Center in Tartous, Nagham Center and Registry, Mona Asaad, pointed out in a statement to SANA that this activity was preceded by a training workshop for trainers, so that today’s workshop serves as an introduction to the elements of shadow theater, starting with writing the text and the method of performance with the ability to change the style and pitch of the voice, leading to making The cartoon dolls after drawing them and the equipment needed by the theater to present the work on it in its final form.

She explained that at the end of the summer session of the Nagham and Qalam Center of the Ministry of Culture, there will be a theatrical production of shadow fiction made by children, presented to the public, in addition to the work of other art workshops.

The Child Culture Officer in Tartous Cultural, Nour El-Din Maalla, pointed to the interest in reviving the shadow theater after its inclusion on the list of intangible cultural heritage at UNESCO, noting that the trainers provided children with information about this art and worked to divide them into groups, each of which completes a specific part of writing text and imagination with Forming cartoon characters according to the role of each of them so that their outputs will be a theatrical work produced by the children themselves.

The children welcomed the idea, which gave them a broader imagination to think about how to choose the topic of the work and formulate it in a way that suits this type of theater, as Alma Shadoud and Hamza Oqdah said, as well as enhancing the spirit of teamwork and sharing ideas.
