An Iranian citizen who apparently identifies with the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards has been accused in the United States of attempting to assassinate former US President Donald Trump's national security advisor, John Bolton, as revenge for the assassination of Qasem Soleimani - according to indictments filed today (Wednesday) by the Ministry of Justice the american

The Washington Examiner first reported on the assassination attempt on March 7, but Joe Biden's administration reportedly resisted filing charges, fearing that such a move could worsen US-Iran relations and delay the signing of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Soleimani, who commanded the Quds Force in the Revolutionary Guards, was killed in a drone attack in Baghdad on January 3, 2020. The Pentagon said that the operation to kill Soleimani, approved by President Trump, was intended to deter Iran from carrying out further attacks after a series of security incidents in Iraq.

Soleimani was marked as a target for many years, and was finally eliminated in an American attack that hit his convoy.

He led the Quds Force, which is responsible for the activities of the Revolutionary Guards outside Iran's borders, since 1998. His forces and their allies are responsible for the deaths of Americans, Israelis and thousands of civilians in countries in the region.

Until the rise of the Sunni Islamic State organization in the middle of the previous decade, it kept a low profile while strengthening ties between Tehran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, President Bashar Assad in Syria and Shiite militias in Iraq.

In the latter, he supplied weapons and explosives, which according to the United States led to the killing and wounding of thousands of American soldiers, and is considered the real master of the house in Iraq.

However, since the middle of the previous decade he began to appear on the battlefields in Syria and Iraq, being admired by many Shiites.

Others, including in Iran and Iraq, saw it as a symbol of oppression and called out against it in recent waves of protest.

The decision to eliminate him was intended to send a message to Iran, disrupting the move to establish itself in the region.

Soleimani also led Iran's efforts to drive a stake in Syria, and issued threats from time to time against Israel, which for its part raised the level of vigilance on its borders, with an emphasis on Syria and Lebanon, for fear of an Iranian response.
