A few days after it became known again about an impasse in the long round of nuclear talks in Vienna designed to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement, the Biden administration announced today (Wednesday) another step against the Iranian regime, which apparently sends a message that Washington has run out of patience with regard to Iranian conduct.
The US Department of Justice has announced that a man from Iran's Revolutionary Guards has been indicted for plotting to assassinate former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton.
Already several months ago, it was leaked to the "Washington Examiner" that the American government foiled the plot, which was intended to avenge the assassination of Quds Force commander in the Revolutionary Guards Qassem Soleimani in 2020 on the orders of President Trump.
But in the same disclosure in March, it was claimed that officials in the Biden administration are hesitating to file an official indictment or are trying to prevent its publication to the general public for fear that this will harm the talks to revive the nuclear agreement, which at the time were still proceeding normally.
According to the announcement of the filing of the indictment, the person behind the assassination plot, Shahram Forsafi, who is also known as Hedi Rezaei, "tried to pay 300 thousand dollars to people in the US to carry out the murder".
In the original report from a few months ago about the foiled plot, it was stated that many sources in the justice system and the security system said that the current commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, Ismail Kaani, received an assignment from Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, to assassinate a series of senior officials in the Trump administration, including the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Bolton himself, this is in revenge for the assassination of the former commander of the Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani.
Another source told the American newspaper that Iran's Civil Intelligence Service was also a partner in the conspiracy and that operatives of Voz were also identified among the assassins.
The newspaper mentioned that an assassination attempt on an American official by a foreign country is grounds for declaring war.
