A man in the country held employees and customers at a bank in the Lebanese capital for long hours in order to allow him to withdraw funds from his account despite his freeze, and became today's hero for many

A Lebanese man who held employees and customers hostage and demanded that the frozen funds be released from his accounts finally laid down his weapon after nerve-wracking hours of negotiations, Lebanese media reports.

The event takes place against the background of the severe economic crisis in the country, in which the banks do not allow the withdrawal of funds in many cases.

The man arrived at the bank at noon and demanded that they allow him access to the funds that are in a frozen account, and also threatened to set fire to the building on everyone present.

On social networks, the attacker can be seen holding a rifle and demanding that they give him 209 thousand dollars.

"Give me back the money!", he shouts in the video.

"I do not have much time!".

According to him, he owed the money to finance an operation for his father.

After seven hours of negotiations, which also fascinated many on social media and was broadcast live, he released the six people he was holding and left the building, Reuters reported. He even raised his hands in a kind of salute as he was led alongside security officials, the Red Cross reported .

During the event, many Lebanese gathered in the area and even roared in support of him in protest of the economic situation.

It is not clear which of the demands he made, if any, were accepted.
