A few days after the sudden raid by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Donald Trump's house in Florida as part of the execution of a special search warrant to confiscate documents, CNN and the New York Times published new details about the moves that preceded the precedent event.
It was reported on the CNN network that several months ago the US Department of Justice issued a special order to Trump to deliver documents that he took with him when he left the White House in January 2021 and did not return them, even when he delivered many boxes of documents.
The issuance of the special order, and non-compliance with its conditions, led to the dramatic, and politically explosive step, which was planned in almost complete secrecy until its execution, and even the heads of the law enforcement system (including President Joe Biden and his attorney general) were not informed of the details.
Sources who spoke with the "New York Times" and received updates on the nature of the documents that the researchers were looking for (and perhaps even found), said that the very decision to carry out the search was actually a last resort of the researchers, who attribute to the documents a significant sensitivity when it comes to US national security due to the classification or their content.
The person who first published the very existence of the order is actually an ally of Trump and his representative in negotiations to return documents to the National Archives.
The Trump camp believes that the order indicates that he was in regular contact with the investigators in order to settle the issue and therefore there was no reason to carry out the search.
In addition, it was learned that investigators even visited Trump's mansion in June to find out the issue and some of the documents were returned at that event, but later, according to the "Wall Street Journal," the bureau received information from a person who revealed the possible existence of other documents and in another place in the mansion.
The unfolding of the investigation since that meeting indicates that the order to bring the documents, which included a demand to share documentary videos showing who arrived at the mansion, was not fulfilled and the investigators encountered Trump's refusal to cooperate.
