Finance Minister Christian Lindner's tax package would relieve the burden on top earners in particular.

Green leader Katharina Dröge is therefore calling for more help for Hartz IV recipients.

Berlin – Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wants to give Germans financial support with a large tax relief package.

Among other things, Lindner intends to reduce the basic tax allowance, which, however, also means that top earners have to pay less tax.

Green leader criticizes Lindner's tax relief package: "Priority is wrong"

This circumstance also caused a lot of criticism in the traffic light coalition itself.

The coalition partners of the FDP, Greens and SPD, consider Lindner's plans to be socially unbalanced.

The Greens parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge is not convinced either, as she explains to

.

The proposal would particularly relieve the burden on people with high incomes.

"From our point of view, the priority is not right yet," she makes clear.

According to Dröge, Hartz IV recipients in particular need more support.

It demands a recalculation of the rule sets.

"They have to increase significantly," explains the Green politician.

The inflation-related additional costs would also have to be taken into account for citizen income.

However, she is not committed to a specific increase.

Hartz IV: Requested increase of 200 euros not realistic

However, she does not consider a surcharge of 200 euros, as demanded by the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband, to be realistic.

The Finance Minister in particular would probably not agree here, but "that is probably an order of magnitude that we would not propose either," explains Dröge.

In the federal election campaign, the Greens advertised an increase of 50 euros.

But that number would be “too low because of inflationary costs.”

According to Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD), the new citizens’ allowance should start on January 1, 2023.

“This major social reform is about showing people more respect and respect for what they have achieved and treating them as equals,” explained Heil.

The standard rates should also be adjusted accordingly – but there is still disagreement in the coalition about how they are calculated and the exact amount.
