Aine Davis: Fourth member of "Beatles" terrorist cell apparently caught by British police

2022-08-11T05:32:39.151Z

Their executions and murders of hostages shook the world, now a member of the so-called "Beatles" terrorist cell has reportedly been arrested. British police arrested the man at London's Luton Airport.

According to consistent media reports, a former member of a cell of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia has been arrested in Great Britain.

The four men had been described by previous hostages as "Beatles" because of their British accents.

Two members are currently in custody in the United States, and a third died in a drone strike.

Now the probably last free member of the cell is caught again.

As the BBC reported, Aine Davis was arrested on Wednesday at the airport in the north London city of Luton.

The 38-year-old came on a flight from Turkey, where he had served a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence on terrorism charges.

The Metropolitan Police said a 38-year-old man had been arrested under anti-terrorism laws after arriving in the UK after flying from Turkey.

The police department did not give a name.

Meanwhile, the Home Office said a British citizen had been deported from Turkey to Britain.

Responsible for executions of US journalists

The IS "Beatles" are said to have held at least 27 foreigners hostage in Syria between 2012 and 2015 and killed some of them.

The hostages came from Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia and the USA, among others.

Among the victims were the murdered US journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, and their executions caused an international sensation.

Last April, a Beatles member, former British citizen Alexanda Kotey, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States.

The sentence against a second member of the group, El Shafee Elsheikh, found guilty in the US, is to be announced next week.

Probably the best-known member of the »Beatles« was the Briton Mohammed Emwazi aka »Jihadi John«, who was killed in a drone attack in 2015.
