Ecuador's Interior Minister, Patricio Carrillo, confirmed the murder of journalist Gerardo Delgado in the coastal city of Montecristi, in the province of Manabí.
The journalist directed the digital platform "Ola Manta TV" and was shot while driving on the Manta-Montecristi road on Wednesday afternoon.
The Police reported that they found several ballistic signs and firearms in the crime area.
The prefect of the province of Manabí and militant of the "Citizen Revolution" movement, Leonardo Orlando, reported that Delgado was part of the movement and that he was a candidate for councilor for that political organization.

“The insecurity, violence, fear and uncertainty that we experience as a country is overwhelmed.
We need urgent action to protect life and family,” Orlando wrote on his Twitter account.
The Minister of the Interior, Patricio Carrillo, reported that the police are investigating the reasons for the crime and that they arrested two suspects in the murder, one of whom with two firearms.

Through a statement, the Communication Council repudiated the murder of journalist Gerardo Delgado.
“We make a call to the respective instances so that the investigations are carried out and the authors and accomplices of this bloody act can be found,” said the Council.
