US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday (August 11th) expressed "
serious concerns
" over the issue of human rights in Rwanda during talks in Kigali with President Paul Kagame, on the last day of his African tour.

As I said to President Kagame, we believe that people in all countries should be able to express their opinions without fear of intimidation, imprisonment, violence or any other form of repression
,” said Antony Blinken during a press conference.

He also said he had discussed the case of Paul Rusesabagina, who has been serving a 25-year prison sentence since last year and has permanent resident status in the United States.
He was speaking during a brief visit to Rwanda, the third and final stage of his African tour after South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
