The EM cycle race leads through the district on Sunday.

About Schlehdorf and the Kesselberg it goes around the Walchensee in the Jachenau.

From there through Anger to the Lenggrieser village center, further via Arzbach to Bad Tölz.

From there the route leads via the S2072 to Geretsried, further via Schwaigwall to Eurasburg and Münsing to the district border.

On Sunday, the EM cycling race will run for around 100 kilometers through Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

Of course, this is accompanied by some restrictions with regard to traffic.

An overview.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – The organizers of the road bike race next Sunday, August 14th are hoping for a bit of “Tour de France flair along the route”.

About half of the approximately 209-kilometer course leads through the district.

This will give the region many beautiful pictures on television, but will also cause some traffic problems.

The race

A maximum of 174 participants are allowed to start in the race for the European Road Cycling Championships on Sunday.

“But it is not certain that there will be that many.

We only find out the day before which drivers will ultimately be starting,” explains Manuel Deutschmeyer, press officer in the organizing committee for the European Championships Munich 2022. This is the title of the largest sporting event in the state capital since the Olympics from August 11th to 21st Games held in 1972.

The European champions are determined in nine sports.

route and road closures

The race starts at 10.15 a.m. in the center of Murnau, the finish is at Odeonsplatz in Munich.

Anyone who wants to cheer on the cyclists in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen can see them at the following transit times: Schlehdorf around 10.45 a.m., Kesselberg 10.57 a.m., Süduferstraße Walchensee 11.17 a.m., Jachenau 11.35 a.m., Lenggries 11.57 a.m., Bad Tölz 12.10 p.m., Geretsried 12.32 p.m p.m., Eurasburg 12.45 p.m. and Münsing 12.57 p.m.

Then the convoy leaves the district in the direction of Berg in the neighboring district of Starnberg.

Some road closures will also accompany the bike race.

"As a rule, the route is closed about 30 minutes before the throughput time, until the entire entourage has passed a point, it takes about 15 minutes," says Marlis Peischer, spokeswoman for the district office.

However, there will be longer-term closures at some key points: The Kesselberg and the B 11 will be closed from Altjoch and Einsiedel from 8.30 a.m.

This also applies to the toll road on the southern shore of Walchensee.

"Interested people can still cycle to the places, for example to transform the Kesselberg into an Upper Bavarian Alpe d'Huez," Deutschmeyer alludes to the famous mountain finish at the Tour de France.

Parking in these sections is only permitted in the parking bays.

"Anyone who is already there at 8:30 a.m.

can only go out again after the ban has been lifted," says Peischer.

That should be the case in the Walchensee area around 12.30 p.m.

In general, temporary parking and stopping bans are to be expected along the entire route on this day.

Hundreds of police officers, among others, will ensure safety along the route to Munich on Sunday.

According to Stefan Kießkalt, spokesman for the district fire inspection, there are also 190 volunteer firefighters in the district.

public transport

There are also restrictions on public transport due to the race.

Some bus connections have to be canceled due to the closures.

The express bus line X970 (Bad Tölz to Starnberg) can be used free of charge on Sunday, August 14th - however, individual journeys are also omitted here.

On the BRB route between Munich and Lenggries there are timetable changes and rail replacement services between Schaftlach and Lenggries.

Morning and midday connections are affected.

All information is available online at www.brb.de.

Where is it worth watching?

Actually everywhere.

But there are key points.

For example, the strenuous climbs on the Kesselberg and the Eurasburger Schlossberg could invite possible breakaways to attack, says Deutschmeyer.

There will also be a commentator on the Kesselberg.

There will also be one in Tölzer Marktstraße.

The athletes drive into the pedestrian zone (actually closed to cyclists) via Bockschützstraße and the Isarbrücke – “past the Marienbrunnen fountain on the right and the Winzerer on the left”, says the deputy spa director Susanne Frey-Allgaier.

Continue through the Khannturm in the direction of Mühlfeldkirche, then sharply left and over the Friedhofsberg in the direction of Geretsried.

From 9 a.m., the city will set up barriers for spectators in Marktstraße, "similar to Leonhardi," says Frey-Allgaier.

According to the organizer, the race will be shown on TV on Eurosport.

At least parts of the race will also be shown on ARD.

supporting program

Some transit locations are planning actions on Sunday.

In Lenggries there is a whole cycling week going on.

On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a cycling mile will be created around the tourist information center - with test bikes, information about cycling, a traffic quiz and the inauguration of an e-bike charging station.

"The ski club grills and the tourist office offers coffee and cake," says TI manager Maria Bader.

The Schronbachmusi will also play from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And the TI across from City Hall is also a good place to watch the racing cyclists whiz by.

They come from Jachenau over the Breton Bridge and Anger in the direction of the village center.

You leave Lenggries via the Bahnhofstraße and the Isarbrücke on the S 2072 in the direction of Schlegldorf, Arzbach and Bad Tölz.

There the cyclists are welcomed in the Marktstraße by the Danzlmusi of the town band.

There's also plenty going on in Geretsried.

From 11.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Neuer Platz there is an extensive program with an information market on bicycles and mobility, a colorful bicycle and children's programme, music by "The Heimatdamisch" and delicacies from various food trucks.

In Eurasburg, the boys' club and the sports club have joined forces and are organizing early morning shopping at the solstice fire place from 11 a.m. with delicacies and music from the Beuerberg band.

At around 12.45 p.m. you can watch how the Schlossberg is conquered.
