Paris, SANA- Firefighters from all over Europe are heading to France today to participate in the fight against the wildfires

Firefighters from all over Europe headed to France today to fight massive wildfires raging for the third day in a row in the southwest of the country.

Reuters quoted the office of French President Emmanuel Macron as saying: "Two Greek firefighting planes, in addition to two Swedish planes, 64 firefighters from Germany, 146 other firefighters from Poland, and more from Austria and Romania went to France to participate in the efforts to extinguish the fires."

More than 1,000 firefighters, backed by water-spraying planes, tried to contain the fire in the Gironde region in the southwest of the country, which forced thousands of people from their homes and destroyed 6,800 hectares of forest.

Firefighters confirmed that they were able to save the village of "Bulan Pele", which turned into a ghost village after the police asked residents to evacuate their homes as the flames approached, warning of an explosive mixture of weather conditions, including winds and other factors that help fan the flames.

In a related context, the head of the European Space Agency, Josef Aschbacher, said: The successive heat waves, receding rivers, and rising Earth temperatures, according to measurements made from space, leave no room for doubt that climate change negatively affects agriculture and industry.

Data from the European Forest Fire Information System showed that more than 57,200 hectares of land have burned in France so far this year, nearly six times the annual average for the whole year from 2006 to 2021.

In mid-July, Gironde witnessed two fires, one in Llanderas, 40 kilometers south of Bordeaux, and the second in Tieste-du-Buc in the Arcachon tourist basin, destroying 20,800 hectares of forest and forcing the authorities to evacuate more than 36,000 people.
