- How do you feel when you sit for the first time in the red armchair of “The Voice Kids”?

Julien DORE.

- There is a mixture of excitement at the idea of meeting a new generation who are keen to express themselves, in this case in song.

And also a form of stress due to the fact that I know, as a viewer, the show, and that, inevitably, I want to be up to this chair that is offered to me this year.

Apparently, before the start of filming, you were stressed about not being yourself…

In fact, I was very afraid that the stress, the fact of feeling filmed, made up, lit, would put a veil on my emotions, that I can't convey enough of what I was just feeling.

But, as soon as it started, in five seconds, everything evaporated!

Why did you agree to be a coach in

"

The Voice Kids

"

 ?

It's been a few years since we discussed it with Matthieu Grelier, the producer of "The Voice", who was also that of "New star" fifteen years ago.

He knows my attachment to this part of childhood which is mine, with which I write songs or imagine music videos.

At 40, I like this role of listening ear to a new generation.

Especially since my last album is very attached to this notion of transmission and listening to this world of childhood which, in our time, is not so much.

You became a dad last year.

Did that play into your desire?

Yes, of course.

I think that was a game changer in my decision.

I suddenly felt capable of no longer being the big brother and also being the explaining dad.

It was new to me.

This gave a lot of love and benevolence to my role as coach.

It's wonderful to be able to listen to the world of childhood singing to us about life.

Being a dad is also an extension of that: listening to your child sing life to us and making sure that it is the prettiest for him.

To see the first images, you seem very comfortable in your role as coach…

I tried to do a bit like on the set of my music videos or when I'm in the studio with children;

that is to say, to have a very instinctive language.

There, we had time to explain what we had felt and it was wonderful for the little ones, because they too had time to understand that we had listened to them, that we had things to say to them, advice to give them for the future…

“'The Voice Kids' is a fun game but it doesn't decide the fate of an 8 or 9 year old child”.

Julien Dore

TF1 presented you as an “inventive and particularly fearsome” coach…

On the “tremendous” side, let's say that when a child overwhelmed me with his interpretation, I necessarily wanted him to join my team.

In fifteen years of artistic path, I have often been described as "offbeat" and that's what makes there inventiveness.

In my career, I have always been more on hiking trails than on highways.

Did you apprehend the moment when you tell a child why you haven't turned around?

It's never easy… When you're on stage in front of an audience and coaches, emotions are increased tenfold and so is sadness.

You have to separate things and that is why calm and words are very important.

With the other jurors, we tried each time to explain to them that it was a moment.

That's to say ?

This show is a springboard for a moment.

They must be aware that, in this competition, there is something playful, funny, and which will not decide a destiny at 8 or 9 years old.

We encourage them.

This competition is a fun game of revealing and building confidence in the passion we have, but that doesn't make a career.

It is very important to explain to children that everyday life and the years ahead are much more important.

Many dates of your tour are sold out and, after three Bercys in April, you will be there again on December 9th.

It's heart-warming, isn't it?

Totally!

It's all the stronger since I'm not on promotion.

So all these full dates are a sign of word of mouth and a desire to come see me on stage.

The tour resumes at the end of September and we will savor this new burst of large halls.

I am extremely aware of the chance to live this adventure because it is rare.

Being a coach on

The Voice Kids

is often the antechamber for

The Voice

.

Would you be tempted?

I work on instinct.

When I finish a tour, I have no other project.

It can be four or five years before a new album arrives.

It's a bit the same for "The Voice Kids".

We'll see… If things come up and instinctively seem good to me to experience, then I live them!

But for now I don't have that idea in mind.
