Long war, fast food: Ukraine celebrates the return of the hamburger chain it left | Israel today

The American McDonald's chain announced that it will reactivate the branches it was forced to close six months ago due to the Russian invasion.

The fast food chain McDonald's will reopen branches in Ukraine in the coming months, about six months after Russia's invasion of the country forced it to stop operating.

This is actually a moral-symbolic victory for the Ukrainians, who see how the network stopped working in the neighboring country because of the sanctions.

As you may recall, in recent months Russia has been unsuccessful in most of its moves and was even forced to withdraw its forces from the capital Kyiv as part of focusing on the eastern part of the country in the region of the Donbas region, and according to various estimates tens of thousands of Russian soldiers have been injured or killed.

As mentioned, in Ukraine they will soon be eating the food of the American chain, while in Russia McDonald's sold the rights to a local company under a different brand, which suffers from a lack of popularity due to inefficiency and poor service.

During the last months when the branches in Ukraine were closed, the American chain continued to pay the salaries of the Ukrainian employees.

According to the announcement of the fast food chain, the opening in Ukraine will be gradual and will take place in Kyiv and the west of the country, which are considered relatively safe and where other western chains have also been operating in recent months such as KFC and Nike.
