Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) does not expect social tensions despite the economic upheaval caused by Russia's war against Ukraine.
When asked whether he expected unrest because of the energy crisis and the associated consequences, Scholz said in the traditional summer press conference: "I don't think there will be unrest in this country".
The welfare state must show that it will not leave anyone alone.
Scholz had previously said that Germany had every chance of "getting through this time well".
But one should not appease the consequences of the crisis either.
At the moment, not all measures of the relief package have been exhausted.
"Everything will be done to ensure that the citizens get through this difficult time".
Most recently, Diakonie President Ulrich Lilie warned in an interview with SPIEGEL that social peace and cohesion are already threatened in view of higher prices.
He referred to the increasing scarcity of the panels.
According to his own statement, Scholz knew “nothing” about the locker of his SPD colleague Kahrs
Scholz had recently gotten into trouble because of a substantial cash find from his party colleague Johannes Kahrs.
When asked by a journalist what he knew about the money in Kahrs' safe deposit box, the chancellor reiterated: "Nothing."
And when asked where he thinks the money comes from: "I have no idea, I assume you know that better than I do."
The Chancellor asserted that there was still no evidence that there had been any political influence in the Hamburg cum-ex scandal.
