A 66-year-old man was found lying down in the toilet for the disabled at Hung Hom Station. He was confirmed dead after being sent to the hospital. The family of the deceased criticized the MTR staff for repeatedly reporting that they had searched the toilet on that day. It took many hours before the cleaners found that the victim was in a coma in the disabled toilet.
Yang Meizhen, director of MTR Hong Kong passenger services, said today (11th) that MTR felt very sorry for the incident. After investigation, it was found that there was room for improvement in handling, follow-up and communication when assisting in finding the victim that day. MTR apologises for the inadequacies.
She said that she will cooperate with the police investigation and will follow up on the improvement work.
