When the fastest racing cyclists in Europe race through the district next Sunday, there will be all sorts of restrictions for drivers.

The police and fire brigade secure the route with a large contingent.

District – Nine European Championships under one roof: With the “European Championships 2022” starting this Thursday, Munich is hosting the biggest sporting event since the 1972 Olympics. One major event is also taking place in the district of Starnberg.

To be precise, there are around 170 racing cyclists who will race along Lake Starnberg at 40 to 50 km/h next Sunday and then on towards the state capital.

Roads will be closed in sections for about an hour each for the European Road Bike Championships (live on Eurosport) with top German rider Pascal Ackermann and well-known faces from the Tour de France.

According to the Starnberg Police Chief Inspector Oliver Jauch, the first drivers coming from Münsing passed the district border around 1 p.m.

It will be closed with bars and tapes from 12.30 p.m.

The route continues on the state road via Allmannshausen, Berg, Kempfenhausen, Percha and Wangen to Munich.

The field covered a total of 209 kilometers.

The start is in Murnau, from there it goes via Kochel and Walchensee, Lenggries, Bad Tölz and Geretsried in the direction of the Fünfseenland.

For the finale in Munich, the drivers do five laps of 13 kilometers each.

Are already on the streets: in Percha and Wangen stopping bans have been imposed - in case of non-compliance, people will be towed away.

Policeman Jauch is very happy that the race only touches the district in contrast to Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

Even so, the officials make a large contingent.

“We offer everything that is available.

We canceled the second day off for the shift workers, and those who normally only work during the week have to come too,” says Jauch.

In addition, the Starnberg inspection expects support from six colleagues from the Upper Palatinate.

The Berg, Kempfenhausen and Allmannshausen fire brigades alone will be deployed with a total of 30 people.

"We have 24 posts to fill," says Berger commander Bastian Sandbichler.

It is important not to let motorists, cyclists and pedestrians through at the crucial time.

Sandbichler: “It will be exciting with the excursion traffic.

As a precaution, the organizers gave the volunteers cards to hand out.

So that road users and residents have the background to the closure in writing - and also a hotline where they can complain.

From half an hour before the lead driver or drivers roll up, the state road on the east bank may not be driven on or crossed.

The Percha exit of the A 952 is also not passable at this time - neither coming from Munich nor from Starnberg.

There are only exceptions for rescue workers, as Jauch emphasizes in the press release in advance: "Inquiries to individual posts are not effective." There are already no stopping signs along the route: on Buchhofstrasse in Percha and in Wangen.

Anyone who parks there will be towed away.

Manuel Deutschmeyer from the organization team emphasizes that the field is fast on the flat track.

And that there is a lot of traffic before and after: Officials, cameramen, the teams' escort cars with spare wheels on the roof.

"Dogs on a leash, children on the hand," says Deutschmeyer.

Incidentally, just a week later, on Sunday, August 21, the women's road race will follow.

The start is at 11.15 a.m. in Landsberg, the 130-kilometer route leads via Dießen (around 12 p.m.), Seeshaupt and Wolfratshausen to Munich.

For this reason, the AS Cycling Team organized a fan festival with food trucks, a bouncy castle and an expo on the subject of sport and the Ammersee region.

It takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Diessen multi-purpose hall.

And the journey from Starnberg from 12.29 p.m. must be diverted between the Landratsamt/Seebad stop and Wolfratshausen.

The Berg/Grafstraße, Aufkirchen and Dorfen near Wolfratshausen stops are therefore omitted.
