A father and a son, brothers separated by fate, men who have been dedicated to mining all their lives: their families are waiting in Villa de Agüita for the rescue to begin.

A team of divers managed to enter the Villa de Agüita mine on Wednesday, in the Mexican state of Coahuila, to assess the state of the flooded wells before the imminent rescue operation of the 10 miners who have been trapped for eight days, according to the news agency The Associated Press.

The large amount of water accumulated in three wells has been the main difficulty faced by the emergency teams, who work tirelessly to try to locate them.

Civil Protection confirmed that "there is no longer any problem for the rescuers, so that they can enter at any time."

These are the 10 trapped miners:

Jaime Montelongo

Two of the miners who managed to escape the accident said that Montelongo, 41, helped them out of the mine.

His colleagues begged him to leave the facilities because the water was already up to his waist, but he preferred to try to save more workers, according to the newspaper Milenio, which has reconstructed the circumstances of the 10 workers trapped under the ground.
