The rail networks do not have a monopoly on summer closures for work.
The Dirif (Ile-de-France Roads Department), which manages the 1,300 km of national roads and "unconcessionary" motorways in the region, is also taking advantage of the drop in traffic in August to carry out major infrastructure modernization.
In particular in two of the 25 tunnels over 300 m long (and subject to heightened safety standards since the dramatic fire in the Mont-Blanc tunnel in 1999) in the area.
