Put your suitcase on the floor after your arrival in the hotel room and leave it there carelessly?

If you leave your suitcase on the floor in a hotel room as a matter of routine, you should change this habit as soon as possible.

Because it could be that you take stowaways home with you in your suitcase on the journey home.

Do not leave suitcases on the floor in the hotel

The managing director of the German Pest Control Association, Andreas Becker, advised some time ago: When moving into a hotel room, put your suitcase down on a table with metal feet if possible.

If in doubt, the animals will not get up there.

The researchers also recommend this.

"Dirty laundry in particular should be placed in a closed bag," they write, according to the German Press Agency.

Normally, the nocturnal parasites live in preferred, frequently used hiding places.

So far, researchers have not been able to explain why the animals still end up in suitcases.

It is now clear: The animals are attracted by the smell of dirty laundry, as Hentley's team found out in the journal "Scientific Reports".

Travelers should therefore not leave dirty laundry on the floor to prevent them from abducting the nuisance spirits.

In one experiment, the scientists placed four bags in each of two identical rooms, where they let bed bugs roam free.

Two of the bags contained clean clothes, the other two contained dirty laundry.

The researchers were able to regulate the temperature and the CO2 concentration in the rooms.

One of the rooms has been enriched with enough CO2 to mimic the presence of a breathing human.

The other room remained "uninhabited", i.e. free of increased CO2 values.
