A major fire broke out on Wednesday evening in the Flacourt composting center (Yvelines).
In total, 1,200 m3 of wood chips went up in smoke after a fire started around 7 p.m.
Ten emergency vehicles and around forty firefighters were mobilized throughout the night.
And if the fire was under control this Thursday morning, the fire was, however, still not extinguished.
The origin would be accidental.

The Flacourt center receives plant waste from the Mantes-la-Jolie region to transform it into compost.
Cracklings that sounded “like gunshots”
According to witnesses, a plume of black smoke quickly rose into the sky above neighboring towns such as Dammartin-en-Serve, Longnes or Tertre-Saint-Denis.
Some, although located several kilometers away, say they heard the crackling of the hearth, “sometimes like gunshots.

The plume of smoke remained visible until sunset and its acrid smell slightly bothered some residents.
This Thursday evening, around twenty firefighters were still on duty to put out the fire.
The number of fires broke records this summer in France.
According to a count in early August, nearly 50,000 hectares had already gone up in smoke in France.
