The winner of the Israel Prize, Aharon Yadlin, died today (Friday) at the age of 96. Yadlin was a public activist, member of the Knesset and Minister of Education in the first Rabin government.
Yadlin was married to Ada HaCohen, who died in 1998 and they had three sons.
Later he remarried Adina Handler Lindberg.
Yadlin was born in Tel Aviv, was active in the scout movement and served as the movement's national coordinator.
In the War of Independence, he fought in the Palmach. He was part of the nucleus of Kibbutz Bari and even participated in the ascent of the Kibbutz to its permanent location in the Negev in 1946. Later he moved and lived in Kibbutz Hatzeris in the Negev.
Yadlin studied general history, economics and sociology at the Hebrew University and was one of the founders of Beit Berel College, where he taught sociology and was the actual director of the college between 1955 and 1957.
