The new parking space on the Penzberger Berghalde is very popular with mobile home vacationers.

It's been open since Monday.

In the first few days, either all or almost all of the twelve places were occupied.

Those passing through are also highly satisfied, as a survey has shown.

One says: "I would give ten out of ten possible points."

Penzberg – It's Wednesday morning: A couple with a small child is packing their things into the vehicle at the new Penzberg mobile home site.

The couple, both 39 years old, come from the Stuttgart area.

You are on tour through Germany and spend every day somewhere else.

They say there was no more room on a campsite at the Osterseen.

Like all respondents, they found out about Penzberg via an app.

When asked about his impression, the 39-year-old says: "It's one of the nicer places." With lots of greenery all around and very quiet.

"It was very pleasant tonight." It's great that there are toilets.

Because, he adds: "There are also places without sanitary facilities."

“I would give ten out of ten possible points”

A few meters away, a couple from near Heidelberg has parked their mobile home, he is 58, she is 59. They are on their way to Mondsee in Austria, they say.

They stopped in Penzberg for one night.

"The place is very good, very quiet, in a wonderful location, like in an amusement park, you can go for walks and do sports here," praises the 58-year-old.

Everything is there: electricity, water, waste disposal.

And you can shop nearby.

The price of ten euros for 24 hours is "acceptable".

But it shouldn't be more, he adds, since electricity and water would be added.

His conclusion: "I would give ten out of ten possible points." If the city were to expand the square, it could make a lot of money, he says.

But there is one flaw: racers in the narrow alley

The native of Munich still has one problem – with young drivers.

In the past, when there was no demarcation, some used the fairground for drifting.

The 58-year-old has now observed that young people drive up to the parking space and accelerate in the lane between the mobile homes, which is just 50 meters long.

"It's dangerous, the city has to come up with something," he says.

"She should put sleepers in," his wife suggests.

A little further on, a woman from Munich is sitting with her daughter at a camping table in front of her mobile home.

"It's beautiful, very central and quiet," she says, praising the fact that there's a toilet and shops nearby.

The 35-year-old and her husband are also passing through without a specific destination.

They want to stay a night or two.

"You can't complain about ten euros a day"

A 62-year-old from Augsburg, who is on his way to Italy with his wife, also praises the calm.

Cars would drive in and out of other parking lots all the time.

The landscape is also “really beautiful”.

He thinks it's good that the electricity column not only takes one-euro coins like in other places, but also two-euro pieces and tens.

Also: "The electricity is not overpriced."

A mobile home from Berlin is parked at the far end.

In front of it is a 33-year-old.

She and her husband want to move to Bichl, but the apartment is not yet ready for occupancy.

The place is great, she says, lots of nature and paths for running, peace and quiet and shopping nearby.

The prices are good too.

"You can't complain about ten euros a day.

You won't find anything cheaper.".

And with a view of the nearby Berghalden-Stüberl: "The place could be a gold mine for the restaurant."

Berghalden visitors: Delimited parking area for cars

The Berliner thinks it's good that the city has set aside a separate car park for locals who want to go to the beach volleyball court or to the curling lanes, for example.

But because one or the other mobile home is parked there, she suggests installing a height limiter at the entrance to the car park.

"Locals should not be deprived of parking."

The city's tourism officer sees their forecast confirmed

In any case, Eleonore Hofmann sees himself confirmed.

The tourism officer of the city of Penzberg had predicted before the opening that the mobile home parking lot would be fully occupied.

She is there regularly herself.

"Everyone feels very comfortable." Hofmann, who created the concept for the new square, is delighted with the positive comments.

In addition to many German guests, she also saw holidaymakers from the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Parking ticket machine is still missing - it should be installed shortly

Hofmann has fed the information into many websites and apps.

What is still missing is a parking ticket machine.

It should be installed shortly.

Currently, holidaymakers park for free.

A second electricity pillar and an information board with a city map will also be set up.

Hofmann wants to take the proposal with the threshold, which is supposed to slow down drivers, with him.

She is rather skeptical about the height limit to the car parking lot.

It could be that another camper driver comes at night and all the regular places are occupied.

You have to see if it gets the upper hand, she says.

In the future it should be checked regularly anyway.

However, there will soon be a brief interruption to the mobile home idyll: the site will be closed during the folk festival, probably a few days beforehand due to construction.
