Within an area not exceeding 20 dunums surrounded by a metal mesh fence located on the Salhab-Mahrousa highway, the farmer Mahdi Al-Ali adopted a new technology in “high density” cultivation of vine trees of white, red, municipal and Moroccan vines, which achieved an increase in production.

And the 55-year-old Mahdi said that intensive agriculture achieves for farmers who have limited holdings of agricultural land an increase in production, contrary to the prevailing belief that the success of agricultural work requires large areas, pointing out that he started applying the new technology during the last season by reducing the distance between one tree and another to 2.5 meters instead of 5 meters with the erecting of iron and bamboo stakes and wires in the form of a wall to ensure their vertical growth and protect them from air currents, which contributed to an increase in production that exceeded 4.5 tons of grapes per acre, amid expectations that it will reach 8 tons during the current season with the start of harvesting and picking operations .

And he indicated that this experiment achieved good financial revenues from selling vine leaves, in addition to selling its fruits, benefiting from pruning operations and planting new cuttings and selling them to farmers and nurseries, pointing out that this experiment provided job opportunities for about 15 people in providing the necessary agricultural services such as maintenance of sticks, wires, harvesting and picking.

For his part, Engineer Wafiq Zarouf, Director of Plant Wealth at the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest, pointed out that intensive agriculture is the ability to produce crops in special environments and conditions to improve plant growth and development. .

In turn, Engineer Bassam Al-Nashar, Director of Plant Production in the Hama Agriculture Directorate, noted the importance of this experiment by increasing the productivity of the vine, which is one of the important crops at the governorate level. The estimates of farmers’ production of vine during the current season indicate 19,033 tons of fruits planted with an area estimated at 2564 watered and 28,760 dunums The number of irrigated trees is 234,659, and Baal is 280,099 trees, indicating that all of them are spread in the first and second settlement areas, where the appropriate conditions are available for their cultivation.

The head of the Hama Farmers Union, Hafez Salem, stressed the importance of these experiments carried out by the governorate’s farmers with the aim of reaching abundant production within small agricultural areas, pointing to the union’s endeavor to improve the reality of the agricultural sector and secure its requirements of seeds, fertilizers and medicines, and establish agricultural food industries that meet the needs of the local market.
