Bomb discovery: An aircraft bomb was discovered in Düsseldorf.

A major evacuation ensues.

Dusseldorf – An American ten-hundredweight bomb was found on Friday (12 August) during construction work in Dusseldorf.

The bomb, which weighs around a ton, has to be defused tonight, according to the city.

The dud was discovered on Moltkestraße in the Pempelfort district.

In a radius of 500 meters around the place of discovery must be evacuated.

According to the city, this affects around 17,000 people who have to leave their houses and apartments.

The warning app NINA has already triggered.

There is no further information about the evacuation area.

The city has not yet announced a contact point for those affected.

Bomb disposal in Düsseldorf: Major evacuation after a bomb was found in Pempelfort

In a radius of 1000 meters around the site where the bomb was found, air protection behavior is prescribed.

This means that those affected there are not allowed to stay outdoors during the bomb disposal and are not allowed to leave their homes.

According to information from the city of Düsseldorf, this affects around 40,000 people.

The explosive ordnance clearance service of the Düsseldorf district government has already been informed.

There is not yet an exact schedule for the defusing and the start of the evacuation.

"The city's official committee is currently meeting to determine the further measures and the time of the defusing," the city announced.

More information will be available after this meeting.

The city then wants to turn on a danger phone.
