It hasn't rained properly in weeks, now the highest level of forest fire danger applies.
District Fire Councilor Rüdiger Sobotta urgently warns of fatal mistakes.
Penzberg/district
- For the past few days, the German Weather Service has reported a very high risk of forest fires for the Weilheim-Schongau district.
The highest danger level is 5. We spoke to District Fire Councilor Rüdiger Sobotta about it.
Have we already had smaller forest or reed fires?
Sobotta:
I don't know anything about that.
But due to the prolonged drought, the danger is certainly greater than, for example, two months ago.
Everything is dry as a straw.
What tips do you give to prevent fires?
Sobotta:
Never smoke on railway tracks or dry embankments.
You really have to exercise extreme caution when grilling.
Even a spark is enough to set fire to a nearby roof truss.
But our citizens are cautious.
You know that in the current situation, a small fire can cause a lot of damage.

Are there any other risks?
Sobotta:
Yes, since rivers like the Ammer are currently only small rivulets, they also release less moisture into the environment.
The risk of fire increases.
In addition, we fire brigades then have problems getting enough extinguishing water in the event of an emergency.
But it should cool down a bit in the next few days.
