Food, medicine, sleeping bags and insect repellent – Holzkirchner collected this and other things for transport to the Ukraine.

The community foundation supported the campaign.

A second transport is planned for autumn.

Holzkirchen

– Last week, two tons of relief supplies left Holzkirchen for Ukraine.

A transporter packed to the brim with everything that is urgently needed in the invaded country.

On Tuesday he arrived in Lviv.

The charge is now distributed from there.

The Holzkirchen community foundation organized the transport together with Lesja Koval.

Koval fled Ukraine with her three minor children and now lives with a family in Holzkirchen that she knew from before.

Her husband Vasyl would have been allowed to leave with them, but he stayed in the Ukraine voluntarily and has now picked up the relief supplies.

There were "many, many boxes full of hygiene items, non-perishable food, baby and pet food," reports Sibylle König, who oversees the relief campaign at the community foundation.

The Holzkirchners' willingness to donate is impressive.

"It was so nice to see how many contributed and what we were able to achieve as a result."

From wheelchairs to blood pressure monitors

In the end, in addition to these boxes, the van was loaded with 25 wheelchairs and walkers, 20 sleeping bags, sunscreen and insect repellent worth 1,000 euros, and medicines and blood pressure monitors worth 2,000 euros.

It is thanks to the many supporters that this was possible, König makes clear.

“So there were schoolchildren in my office who had bought diapers and hygiene items with their pocket money.” Primary school 1 set up a donation course at the summer party and collected almost 1,500 euros;

the helpfulness of the market pharmacy and the Caritas St. Anna home was "enormous".

Thanks to the monetary donations, petrol as well as tolls and motorway fees for the transport could also be paid for.

Vasyl Koval and a member of the Ukrainian military hand over part of the aid package with sleeping bags, sunscreen, insect repellent and food in Lviv.

The military will distribute them in the Dnipropetrowska region.

Lesja Koval is also grateful and promises: “We will distribute everything to the soldiers and people in need in Ukraine as quickly as possible.” The transport has now arrived safely there.

The soldiers in the Dnipropetowska region receive sleeping bags, coffee, sunscreen and insect repellent as well as some of the non-perishable food.

The medical items are delivered to a hospital where injured soldiers are being treated.

Some of the medicines, as well as groceries, baby and pet food will be distributed to the residents of the city of Kramatorsk.

A second transport is planned for autumn.

"We coordinate on site in Ukraine what is then most urgently needed and adjust the lists accordingly," announces König.

It will be announced via its own homepage, Facebook, Instagram and the press when it will be time again.

Learning mentors wanted for students from the Ukraine

Anyone who wants to help can also support other projects of the community foundation.

Above all, learning mentors are currently being sought, says König.

"For the new school year there will be a new class in Holzkirchen with Ukrainian children and others with a migration background." People who want and have the time to help these children learn the German language and do their homework can contact the community foundation.

"Young people can do that," says König.

Some are already in the learning café.

All information and contacts can be found on the website of the community foundation.
