The CHP stated that from July 1 to today (2:00 p.m. on the 12th), the CHP has recorded a total of 97 imported confirmed cases, of which 84 people arrived in Hong Kong from Guinea and the remaining 13 people arrived in Hong Kong from other African regions. .
The above figures include the 22 confirmed cases recorded from August 6 (after 2pm) to 12.
As of 12 noon today, a total of 27 malaria-infected patients are still hospitalized in public hospitals. The Centre for Health Protection said no new deaths or critical cases have been recorded.
Malaria is common in regions with warm climates such as Africa, Southeast Asia and South America, and is transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito.

The CHP stated that it will continue to take a series of measures to actively follow up on imported malaria cases. The CHP has been working with medical staff from the Hospital Authority to conduct health screenings at Hong Kong International Airport for those who have recently visited Guinea. Immediate arrangements will be made for visitors suspected of contracting malaria and those with clinical needs to be admitted to hospital for treatment, while the rest will be arranged to be admitted to quarantine facilities and sent to public hospitals for treatment if they have symptoms.
The spokesman said that the above measures can effectively prevent imported malaria cases from entering the community.
The risk of local transmission of malaria is very low, but the public should remain vigilant and reiterate that the current medicines are effective in treating malaria, and Hong Kong has sufficient medicines, but early diagnosis and treatment are particularly important for a complete cure for malaria.
