Since the beginning of April, the "sailing boys" Tim Hund and Vincent Goymann have been exploring the island world of Indonesia with their boat.

The globetrotters made intensive use of their time there.

Among other things, they were accompanied by a ZDF camera team, which filmed a documentary about the journey of the two.

This will now be broadcast on Sunday.

Gaißach/Königsdorf/Bali – In a telephone interview with the courier, Tim Hund from Gaißach and Vincent Goymann from Königsdorf report how the collaboration with the film team came about.

"ZDF approached us three years ago with the desire to report on our trip on Terra X.

The editor found us on the internet.

But it became really concrete a year ago when we were in Polynesia,” explains Hund.

That's where the first shoot with the camera team took place.

A second time they have now met in Indonesia.

Freediving with two adult humpback whales

“We are the main protagonists in the documentary,” says Goymann.

“Apart from the topic of sailing, there are pictures of us freediving, where we met two adult humpback whales.

But there is also a lot to see about French Polynesia and Indonesia.” For example, the two were accompanied on a visit to the Coral Gardeners on Moorea, who are trying to save the corals from dying.

There were also days of shooting on Komodo in Indonesia, where they met the legendary Komodo dragons.

And an ascent to the crater of the Tambora volcano, whose eruption over 200 years ago resulted in a global climate catastrophe, was also on the shooting schedule.

Time with the film crew was 'a cool experience'

The time with the film team was very exciting for both of them, says Tim Hund.

"It was a cool experience.

We learned a lot about film, which helps us to improve our own videos.” In the end, however, the whole thing also brought some time pressure with it, since the shooting date in Indonesia was firmly planned.

"After my passport problems in French Polynesia, we didn't have much time to meet the deadline." That's one of the reasons why they ended up heading for Indonesia without a stopover.

Indonesia delighted the two sailors

The sailing boys are enthusiastic about their time in Indonesia: "The country has so much to offer and so much happened on our tour of the islands," enthuses Vincent Goymann.

A highlight for both of them was definitely the opportunity to dive with whale sharks, the largest fish in the world.

But they are also impressed by the local people: "We were warned in advance that people often robbed here," says Hund.

But they would have experienced it very differently.

"People here are very friendly and helpful, which makes it easy to travel," adds Goymann.

Engine problems: Damage was difficult and expensive to repair

But even this section of their circumnavigation was not without problems for the two of them: On the first nautical miles towards Komodo, their boat, the "Arrya", ran aground on a reef at night.

Apart from a real shock and a few scratches on the keel, not much happened.

The engine problems that arose shortly afterwards proved to be more difficult.

The injection nozzles were damaged by water in the diesel tank caused by a defective heat exchanger.

"Unfortunately, this damage was very expensive and difficult to repair," recalls Hund.

The circumnavigation is slowly coming to an end

Now the two sailors are heading from Bali towards Singapore.

"We want to look around for a week before we continue to Malaysia," reveals Hund.

There the Arrya will be lifted out of the water and completely overhauled before heading to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Long term, Tim Hund and Vincent Goyman plan to welcome the New Year in Tel Aviv, Israel.

With that, their circumnavigation would slowly come to an end.
