Schliersee
– Schliersee's Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer has every reason to be happy: his daughter Luzia was born a few days ago, and this Saturday he is celebrating his 60th birthday.
A conversation about serenity in the town hall, cooking at home - and the happiness of sometimes not being recognized.
Mr. Schnitzenbaumer, celebrations for 60th birthdays have a certain history in the district of Miesbach. How much do you let it rip?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
(

) Definitely without public funds.
I celebrate at home in the garden.
Because I'm expecting a good 100 guests, we set up a tent.
A milestone birthday is always an occasion to look back. What are you doing differently today than ten years ago?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
I approach things more calmly.
Of course, this is mainly due to the routine that you gain.
Especially in the mayor's office I learned that most things are not eaten as hot as they are cooked.
A lot of things will resolve themselves if you take it easy.

Keyword cooking: Is it true that you also like to stand at the stove in your private life?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
Absolutely.
Just recently I did a cooking class with Christian Jürgens – great!
I especially like to prepare fish tartare, I also like the Asian cuisine.
Honestly, cooking is the only hobby I can find time to do at the moment.
Unfortunately, I hardly ever get to ride my bike anymore, which I used to enjoy doing when I was with the police.
You can also tell by the weight.
I always say: 16 years as mayor brought me 16 kilos...

And you could certainly add a few more years with a fourth term starting in 2026. Where do you see yourself at 70?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
I don't dare to say that today.
And my idea of it can change from week to week.
I just let it come to me.
Especially since you also have good things to do with your guest house in Fischhausen outside of the town hall.
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
That's true.
Although my wife does most of the work here, I contribute as often as I can.
It's also just fun to slip into a completely different role.
Do your guests know that you are staying with the mayor himself?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
Usually not when you arrive.
And I really enjoy not being recognized.
But after a few days, most of them bring it out (

...
Back to your birthday: you probably received what was probably the best present before: your daughter Luzia was born a few days ago. Have you gotten used to each other a bit?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
Definitely.
The little one is very well-behaved and only wakes up once or twice a night to drink.
So we definitely get our sleep and can really enjoy family happiness.
Does that change the way you look at life?
Franz Schnitzenbaumer:
Absolutely.
The fact that I've become a father again helps to put other things in the background in favor of the private sphere.
In any case, I can say that I don't feel like 60 at all.
That's a number I can't really feel in my life.
