Parking spaces are becoming scarce at Hollerner See.

The recreation area association would like 700 more parking spaces.

The municipal council of Eching did not want to simply nod off.

Eching

- Especially when the weather is nice, on weekends and during vacation times, the two Echinger bathing lakes are popular destinations for those looking for relaxation from the surrounding area.

At peak times, this popularity also manifests itself in a rather unwelcome way through overcrowding of the available parking spaces, long queues - and wild birds parking illegally.

This is now a problem, especially at Lake Hollern.

700 more parking spaces at Echinger See

Because while around 1,300 parking spaces are available at Echinger See, there are only 600 at the much larger Hollerner See. According to the observation of the Munich North Recreation Area Association, which is responsible for the local recreation area and nature reserve, these are already available at noon on many summer weekends proven.

As a result, there are traffic jams in the area of the parking lot access, obstacles to the arrival of the rescue services and traffic obstructions as well as damage caused by wildlife parkers.

Jens Besenthal, Managing Director of the Recreation Area Association, has now submitted a proposal to the municipality of Eching to expand the Hollern car park area by a further 600 spaces.

The area in question is directly to the east of the existing parking lot and is owned by the municipality.

This now fallow gravel area was originally intended for an overnight caravan pitch, but the implementation plans have disappeared into the proverbial drawer.

Now the expansion of the parking areas is being considered as a use - namely "for high-traffic visitor days and only in the warm months".

For this, "the said areas would have to be transferred to the recreation area association" as formulated in the resolution proposed by the administration for the municipal council.

However, there was fierce resistance to this approach and an approving nod in the Council.

Georg Bartl (CSU) expressed serious concerns that the spa plans at Hollerner See and the expected volume of traffic in the city were not prevented in order to attract more traffic again with more parking spaces.

Julian Morgenroth (SPD) and Angelika Pflügler (Greens) also expressed the opinion for their parliamentary group that a further focus on motorized private transport is definitely the wrong signal today.

Pflügler made the suggestion to look at the use of a bathing bus and also to ask about the interest of private providers.

Morgenroth also refused, in anticipatory obedience, to make the entire natural area available for parking.

Rather, alternative solutions should be submitted to the recreation area association.

It is conceivable, for example, to discuss a "slimmed-down" offer such as a narrow strip of parking along the wall to the connecting road from Eching to Unterschleißheim.

There are always illegal parkers

The problem of illegal parking, it was also discussed, exists regardless of the occupancy of the parking spaces, because many illegal parkers are not willing to pay parking fees and therefore park their cars recklessly in the nature reserve and on the edges of fields.

Increased traffic controls and fines would be the way to go.

Finally, the council decided with a 15:6 vote to negotiate a reduced number of additional parking spaces and additional accompanying transport connections in talks with the recreation area association.
