The organizers of the Markt Schwabener Weiherspiele are actually satisfied: there was only one rain cancellation and quite good visitors - but there could have been more spectators.

Markt Schwaben - "Actually," reveals Theaterverein board member Franz Stetter, "our play from the Wirtshaus im Eberwald was already planned for 2020.

But then Corona threw a spanner in the works, we had to postpone it”.

But the wait seems to have been worth it, because the reactions to the 15 evenings of theater at the Kirchweiher were obviously consistently positive.

"For 25 years we've had the very best weather conditions this season," says Stetter, who, himself a veteran of local theater fans, can't remember a similarly good, continuous period of fine weather.

Everything went according to plan, even if, as cashier Daniel Brandl interjects, "the number of viewers was not quite optimal".

After all, around 5,200 paying visitors came to the pond, admiring 16 actors with speaking roles and 14 other actors on the floating wooden stage.

"With our game dates, we came to a time when a lot of live spectacle was offered elsewhere and is still happening," Stetter and Brandl are looking for an explanation as to why the theoretical maximum of around 8700 spectator seats could not be exhausted .

Competition everywhere: there are festivals everywhere

"At the moment there are festivals of all kinds in every village, some have saved their money for a big vacation after the long Corona period.

And we shouldn’t forget that some people are still afraid of getting infected at such an appointment.”

The theater troupe was all the happier that they themselves were not affected by any cases of illness during the season, only the third performance actually had to be canceled due to heavy rain.

Stetter: "But we were able to distribute all the viewers to other dates, everyone who had a paid ticket could also see our play".

There was also joy that such veteran actors as Hermann Bogenrieder or Anna Seiler were able to take part.

The special children's theater also had a lot of resonance.

The Swabian theater people are particularly proud of their well-established troupe in the truest sense of the word: local craftsmen from Isen and Anzing, who had once again created an excellent stage, a very beautiful stage design, about 15 helpers per evening who take care of safety and cleanliness and have taken care of the supply of snacks.

Above all, however, they swear by director and songwriter Ferdinand Maurer.

"He has once again adapted a well-known play so well to local references, hit the nerve and the zeitgeist exactly," enthuses Franz Stetter - and he has already been able to experience a lot of good things here.

But he also pours some water into the Freuden wine: “Organizing pond games means taking on a new risk every year.

After all, a lot depends on details that the visitor cannot even see or evaluate, and the specifications are becoming more and more numerous.

We have to get permits before we can play.

In addition, there are constantly refined fire protection regulations and much more.

Not to mention the financial risks – we still don't have any final figures for this year's season, but we hope that it won't end up going negative.”

Performances are already planned there again, the first taking place on September 17 with Werner Meier.
