The Stuttgart S-Bahn trunk line is closed until September 11th due to construction work.

This costs commuters a lot of time and nerves - even after the tunnels have reopened.

Stuttgart – Anyone currently using public transport in Stuttgart needs a lot of patience.

The S-Bahn route section between Stuttgart main station and Stuttgart-Vaihingen has been closed for almost two weeks.

From July 30th to September 11th, the S-Bahn in the state capital will not stop at the stations Hauptbahnhof (low), Stadtmitte, Feuersee, Schwabstraße, Universität and Österfeld.

There have also been timetable changes and restrictions in long-distance and regional transport since the S-Bahn trains are routed through the terminal station.

Many passengers are longing for September 11th, when the route network will finally be back to normal.

But Deutsche Bahn has bad news, as BW24 reports.

Passengers have to expect massive restrictions or disabilities for far longer than expected, as

by lkz.de.

The chaos may continue for years to come - until 2025.

Long travel times in and around Stuttgart: construction work on the main line is ongoing

The current lockdown reminds many of last summer.

The same section of the route was already closed in 2021.

The reason for the new blocking of the main route is the laying of cable lines.

Among other things, the modern signaling technology ETCS (European Train Control System) will be installed.

In the future, this system should allow trains to run more frequently, thus increasing the capacity of the main S-Bahn route by at least 20 percent.

In the course of the closure, the Stadtmitte, Feuersee, Schwabstraße and Universität stops will also be given a more modern appearance.

Deutsche Bahn is investing 80 million euros in the modernization of the main S-Bahn line.

For passengers, this means one thing above all: check the timetable and be prepared for longer travel times.

The S-Bahn lines from Marbach, Bietigheim, Ditzingen and Korntal-Münchingen end at Stuttgart Central Station and do not run any further from there.

In order to get to downtown Stuttgart and the university in Vaihingen, travelers have to change buses.

In addition, the S-Bahn only runs every 30 minutes.

However, this year's construction work will not put an end to the chaos in the Stuttgart S-Bahn tunnels.

As the

Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung (LKZ)

reports, commuters must expect closures by 2025, which may also affect long-distance and regional transport in the future.

Originally, the work on the main line was to be completed by 2023.

However, according to Deutsche Bahn, this plan cannot be kept.

The work is also tightly scheduled this summer, but it is assumed that the route will be operational again on September 12, a railway spokesman told the

LKZ

.

Commuters annoyed by the chaos caused by construction work on the main route - "Then rather traffic jams"

So far, Deutsche Bahn has not received any complaints or anything similar about the current situation on the main route.

"We have recently received little feedback," says the railway spokesman.

On Facebook, however, the mood seems to be clear.

Many commuters report chaos and longer travel times.

"That's why the car was invented ... so you don't have to take the train," says one user.

Another train driver reports that she has to go to Stuttgart for rehabilitation.

She has since switched back to the car.

“The journey was sometimes more stressful than the day in rehab.

Then rather a traffic jam with music, space around it and my peace," she writes.

"Can't be surpassed in madness, always and constantly everywhere construction sites and now also chaos in the public sector," agrees another user.

In autumn 2022, train passengers in Zuffenhausen will have to prepare for further timetable changes.

Then the tracks will be renewed there.

Whitsun 2023 the next construction site is due in Feuerbach, when a dilapidated bridge at the station will have to be renewed.
