A man who died Thursday in a confrontation with police after firing a nail gun at the FBI offices in Cincinnati had posted several messages on former President Donald Trump's social network expressing his intention to kill FBI agents after who raided the former president's mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida on Monday in search of possible secret documents stolen from the White House.

Two law enforcement sources provided NBC News with the name of the suspect, Ricky Shiffer, and said he was present at the Capitol storming on Jan. 6, 2021, according to three witnesses who recognized him in photos taken the day of the attack.

It is not clear if he entered the legislative chamber.

Shiffer frequently spoke on social media about his involvement in the riot.

On Truth Social, a social media platform founded by the media company Trump Media & Technology Group, Shiffer apparently posted a message detailing his failed attempt to break into the FBI building.

“Well, I thought I could break through the bulletproof glass, but no.

If you don't hear from me again, it's true that I tried to attack the FBI, and that will mean that they took me off the internet, that the FBI caught me, or that they sent the normal police after me, ”wrote user @RickyWshifferJr at 9 :29 a.m. ET, shortly before the attack.

Shiffer claimed in multiple posts on Truth Social after the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, that he wanted to commit a violent act.

In one of his writings,

he asked people to arm themselves and be ready for "combat".

“We must not tolerate this,” he wrote.

Shiffer's account on Truth Social, which was verified by NBC News on Thursday night, is no longer available.

When another user wrote that his photo and account information had been sent to the FBI, Shiffer replied, “Let them come.”

After someone else asked him on Truth Social if he advocates terrorism, Shiffer's account's response was that they should kill FBI agents "on the spot." "You're a fool if you think there's a non-violent solution." ”, reads the account.

Republican lawmakers have criticized the Joe Biden Administration for searching the property of a former president, an unprecedented police action in the country's political history that was personally authorized by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Garland defended the Justice Department and FBI agents from criticism and attacks he called "unfounded" during a press conference Thursday.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said Thursday that the threats against the agency "should be of deep concern to all Americans."
