The reopening of the Hotel Bachmair am See in Rottach-Egern was announced for this summer.

But Hirmer Hospitality, which took over the once legendary, family-run traditional hotel on a long-term lease at the end of 2019, is still a long way from it.

Rottach-Egern

- Whoever strolls through the Rottacher Seestraße - and that was what around 9,000 visitors did at one go at the Seefest alone - is surprised and wondering: Why is there no construction activity to be seen at the Hotel Bachmair am See?

Have the plans of the Munich Hirmer Hospitality changed?

As a reminder: At the end of 2019, Hirmer Hospitality, a company of the Munich fashion family Hirmer, took over the Bachmair with a long-term leasehold contract from the Rauh-Bachmair family.

Conversion and renovation plans were made, submitted and also approved during ongoing operations.

Under the Hirmer Hospitality brand “Truuee.

Hotels & Places” it is to be operated.

In 2020 it was decided to close the house after all in order to be able to carry out the construction work quickly.

Employees were fired, the tenants in the arcades were given notice.

Renovation so far only in the interior

In fact, the construction activities have so far only taken place inside - virtually invisible to the public.

When asked, PR spokeswoman Patricia Baur explains why the work is taking such a long time: "During the component tests, it turned out that the building fabric was getting old and no longer met the current state of the art and safety requirements." This had to be taken into account in the planning.

"This means that old technical centers were dismantled, aging and dilapidated technical infrastructure was dismantled and a large part of the existing rooms were demolished." The interior demolition work has now been completed to the extent that the new building infrastructure can be set up.

Material shortages and delivery difficulties

The spokeswoman also explains why further work is being delayed: “Like the entire industry, we too are struggling with the current supply bottlenecks and the associated shortage of materials.

This led to various rescheduling in the project, which delayed the construction work in the project.” In general, according to the spokeswoman, the current shortage of materials and the global delivery difficulties and the associated consequences would pose the greatest challenge.

alignment remains

According to the spokeswoman, nothing has changed in the future direction of the hotel.

As reported, 150 rooms should be available in the future, before the closure there were around 100 rooms, suites and apartments.

The new Bachmair am See is to be positioned in the 4-star superior area.

Another 50 residential units are planned for the staff.

"Bachmair has priority"

When asked whether other hotel projects - for example in Bad Gastein - could have come to the fore, the PR agency replies: "The Bachmair is still a priority for us.

We are currently working on the fine-tuning and its design.

Our primary goal is to appropriately combine the history and tradition of the hotel with the requirements of contemporary, modern hotels in the new Bachmair am See and to lead it successfully into the future.” The spokeswoman cannot name a new opening date, “since such a complex one project always harbors a series of imponderables.

They are working flat out with the partners to complete the work as quickly as possible in order to "reopen the Bachmair am See as soon as possible".

The head of the Rottach building department, Tanja Butz, cannot contribute anything more concrete either.

You are not aware of any new applications.

The Miesbach district office also keeps the ball flat.

According to a spokeswoman, approval was granted this April for the conversion of the so-called "Urhaus" southwest of the main building on Seestrasse.

Only internal work takes place there.

"For the main building with the panorama restaurant," said the spokeswoman, "there is currently no application from the state building authority."
