Two firefighters seriously injured during firefighting in Goch

Two firefighters were seriously injured in a firefighting operation in Goch on the Lower Rhine on Friday.

Immediately after the arrival of the first emergency services at a commercial establishment where the fire broke out, the fire brigade announced that the smoke gas had ignited.

Two firefighters suffered burns.

There is no danger to life.

Goch - Both seriously injured were flown to special clinics with rescue helicopters.

One of the two will probably be able to be released again on Saturday.

The fire brigade warned that it cannot be ruled out that extinguishing water got into the sewage system and thus into the river Niers.

She recommended initially not taking water from the kidney, not bathing in it and not letting animals drink from it.

“Measurements are used to verify whether there is actually a risk,” she said.

Because of the heavy smoke, the population was at times asked to close windows and doors in the affected area and to remain in the buildings.

A railway line of the RE 10 and the federal highway 67, which are located near the free-standing building, were closed.

The emergency services were able to lift the smoke warning and the blocking of the railway line in the course of the evening.

The extinguishing work was completed later in the evening - after the clean-up work was still ongoing, the main road should then be released again.
